Concern rises for missing trainer Owen Brennan

By Graham Green 3:39PM 18 DEC 2012

CONCERN was increasing on Tuesday over the safety of trainer Owen Brennan, who went missing from his home in Derby on Monday afternoon.

Derbyshire police on Tuesday issued a photograph of 77-year-old Brennan and appealed for the public's help to find him as Mountain Rescue volunteers joined officers in the search.

Officers are searching the area around his home and are now asking residents to check their gardens, garages and any other outbuildings for Mr Brennan

Racecourses and trainers in the area have been alerted to the disappearance amid fears Brennan could have become disorientated as a stroke in September has left him suffering memory loss.

After retiring in October 2009 following a successful career best known for the likes of Vulrory's Clown and Speaker Weatherill, Brennan made a return to the training ranks in February this year, and has since saddled three winners from his new stable at Bretby, 13 miles outside Derby.

His wife, Pat, said: "I last saw Owen at 4.45pm on Monday when he went out, and I have no idea where he has gone. I thought he'd be gone for ten minutes, but he didn't come back and he didn't take his phone with him. The problem is he had a stroke three months ago so he might not necessarily know where he is if he gets into a strange area.

"Because Owen likes Uttoxeter racecourse, I have spoken to (clerk of the course) Charlie Moore in case he turns up there, and we visited Chris Kellett's yard on Monday, and Owen has also been to John Mackie's stable, and they are all looking out for him.

"The police went out to Bretby on Monday night, and my son has been again today, but there has been no sign of Owen."

Brennan is described as white, 5 ft 7inches, of slim build, with brown short hair that is going grey. He is wearing brown denim trousers with a red cross on the back pocket, a brown cotton type jacket with a wool lining and a fur collar. He may possibly be wearing a cap. He walks with a stoop.

Anyone who sees Brennan is asked to call Derbyshire police on 101.

Thoughts are with his family and I hope he is found safe and well soon.
