Hugely successful, but made a lot of enemies en route (he's not interested in history, only future). He'll rule with a planetary sized ego, meticulous attention to detail and ruthless ambition. But you'll get CL at the very least or heads, limbs and everything will roll. He doesn't do failure.
I think that kind of rumour is inevitable. And of course most likely made up. If you have a vacuum hot air will rush to fill that so it says it all when it's a saints fan reporting their least favorite person short of lovern of couse is on our radar. At this point all I've heard I'd who's not going to be our coaches We have speculated that someone and maybe not rodgers had to be picking new coaches. Cortege being mentioned just sound like 2+2 sort of stuff given his role at Southampton in shaping them
He's a long way from Saints fans least favourite person. In fact he was widely respected (if not loved) - it's like putting The Terminator in charge. It might not be fun for those working for him, but he gets things done.
Loved by all but your owner? in any event... it not doing the rounds up here so... is it an inevitable link? probably. There is a vacuum and people will rush to fill it and honestly coaching support roles won't fill it for long. the one things we can say thus far is the meeting between the interested parties held last week thus far has not had major leaks and what we are talking about is the direct consequences i.e. two people getting let go so far inglethorpe and pako are nos... the next steps will be who else is saying no.
so now we announce the widely know Ings move. LFC squad: GK: mingolet, no cover RB: flanagan and wisdom.. manquillo looked homseick LB: moreno, no cover CB skertl sahko, toure lovern, ilori, coates Holding CM: lucas, Can CM Milner, henderson, allen Attackers Coutino, Ibe, lallana.. sterling. markovic Striker: sturrdige, Origi, Ings and lambert.
Would love to have Cortese as the new CEO. Ruthless and not afraid to make changes, which is what we need. Has good contacts in the world of football. I'm expecting big changes this week from LFC - new CEO, DoF, coaches ..?
My view is preseason starts 1st july or so. You would expect at minimum the coaches to be in place by then. after that though.... I realy don't know what would come in.
Cortese does like to spend money, esp' if it's not his . You'll be champions of Europe in 2yrs or broke. Mind you I don't belive the rumour, your owners are more hands on than he would like.
Fair point - but one thing is for certain is that he will get things done, and implement changes. Been involved in football and football finance for a long time now so he understands how to run a club.
there are certain things on a "scientific" level he did at southampton that will stand to them for many years really it comes down to this.. when he took over at southampton they were in admin down in the dregs. they had a good ground and some interesting things already like pardew but really they finished 2nd in league 1 and 2nd in championship under atkins then sacked him brutally and hired Pinocchio and signed a lot of good players along the way. You can't fault the guy for what he did can you? I would say that not one player signed in league 1 survived long did they? Is there one? and even looking at champtionship year cork was the only one. So would it be fair to say that the playing staff themselves did a great job as did atkins... cortese did work off the field. in the prem thn it might be different.. I remember them snatching gaston ramieres out form under us (thanks for that btw) so really one must wonder.
I read somewhere that he was incredibly hands on - was at the training grounds etc, talking with players, managers, ensuring the facilities were top notch etc. I think his ruthlessness is key - we constantly get burnt in the market, and we need someone who can close deals and has contacts. Rick Parry has a mixed record but his contacts and influence within UEFA were very strong. Same as David Gill - rightly or wrongly, it opens doors ..
He had a big hand in facilities. i think Southampton have 11 pitches laid each with the dimensions and grass types of each rival ground... that kind of detail I think he was certainly ruthless with atkins but you can see it paid off.
And that's what you want from a CEO - someone making big decisions but ultimately showing ambition and going for bigger and better, even if it p*sses of sections of support. Along with a DoF, getting a top CEO would be one of the biggest signings this summer - need a proper structure in place.
I wonder how having both could work. I think coretese would not allow both roles for example. you have academy director and such already. I would like to actually be able ot see the organisational structure and say yeah it makes sense at least. right now i've no idead who fallows reports to really.
If we drew the org chart today. Henry tells warner what to do who tell ayre what to do. but then...... who reports to ayre, who reports to rodgers? eg inglethorpe at academy director? surely to ayre right now? fallows? the committe? etc etc. its all very complicated
As CEO, Cortese would handle the business side - closing deals, building up a network of contacts to help us do business. DoF is focused purely on footballing operations - developing the scouting network, outlining the football philosophy throughout the whole club. As we said, Cortese is hands on so will be interesting to see if he can operate in such a role with a DoF under him.. Very good article on Cortese: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25420261
for me would it not be: CEO/Chairman/ whatever at the top then Technical director - commerical director - Customer focus director then reporting to technical director you have senior team structure, youth development structure, and scouting systems reporting to commercial director is all the financial and sale staff organised to manage those tv rights, merchandising sponsorship etc etc please log in to view this image the best club in europe has a clear reporting structure the buck stops exactly where it stops... no it was him no it was him stuff here. please log in to view this image
