The Echo have crucified him. He's a dead man walking imo http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/comment-liverpool-fc-backroom-staff-9402141
I wouldn't say crucified, I think that is a fair piece that says nothing we didn't already know. Brod will be under pressure no matter what happens. Bringing someone in that would sadly more pressure shouldn't make a difference or be seen in a negative light. He either does the job well or gets sacked, there is no middle ground so who comes in doesn't matter. Actually, a top name should in theory make it easier since they're usually better at the job too.
To keep a man who has failed so badly is giving the wrong message to the players. It says it doesn't matter if they did not perform or achieve their objectives, the manager or players won't get sacked. It will be interesting to see whether Balotelli is sold. He has been a huge failure, scoring one goal for a £16m outlay. He has to go. Rodgers himself perpetuate that culture of accepting below par performances. When we lost points (after a defeat or draw), whereas most top managers will say the truth, Rodgers kept saying that the players gave 110% etc? Mourinho Wenger ferguson Van Gaal would all say the players need to play better . Rodgers seems to be petrified of even giving a hint that his players have not performed.
Some suggestions that Pako ayestaran may return as number 2 and Alex Inglethorpe promoted to first team coach. Not bad picks, but not sure how good Alex is - just that he's highly rated within the club. Marsh and Pascoe didn't get their contracts renewed because they were deemed not good enough for their position...officially.
Who knows. ... pako is a very experience guy. Inglethrope is qualified but what's he really done down there? There no conveyor of talent is there.... not really and it seem we need loans to actually teach lads how to play. Rodgers and him do ball lick on official club website a lot so maybe it's that kind of in house least threat mentality that suggests Rodgers gets his picks. We will see
Inglethorpe is a great youth coach - not sure if he will be able to translate the same success to first team level. Pako would be a great signing IMO - tactically clued and will certainly add more structure to our play.
One advantage of Alex being involved in the first team (and this may be where FSG have had a say in things) is that the youth might have an easier time moving up into the first team to get a chance.
Seem to remember Ayestaran was talking to Chelsea & other clubs while still employed at Liverpool. That's why he was put on gardening leave for the whole year instead of just being let go.
According to Ayestaran that's not true. He claimed back in 2013 that he wouldn't and didn't talk to another English club due to his love of LFC. He said himself and Rafa had 12 years together successful years which included promotions, primera liga twice, Europa league, Champions League and F.A.Cup But in his final year Rafa had started to believe the hype and was just going through the motions rather than sticking with what made the duo so successful. He still has a house in Liverpool just 10 minutes walk from Rafa's house. I doubt he's coming back but it'd be a major boost if he does. The 3 trophies rafa won were with pako as his right hand man.
"My staff here are absolutely critical to what we’ve done,” he said when the Reds were flying high in April 2014. “I couldn’t do it on my own.” Quick to let them take the fall for you Brendan. It seems the head coach is slowly being taken apart an I would expect him to resign rather than wait for the push from the owners
Sounds more like the Echo lost its favorite source from with the camp than anything. He is safe due to his contract imo. .. the question still remains.. who is picking the next coaches hired
Rumour that you lot want our ex-Chairman Nicola Cortese on board? Would certainly shake things up, and I wouldn't fancy Brendan's chances of being there long should that come to pass.
Interesting... he was very successful at Saints wasn't he? But as you say, known to be pretty ruthless
