He was an inspirational player and captain for Ireland right up to the Six Nations last season, so hopefully he'll be able to install that in the dressing room. Though what he knows about football I'm not sure.
Ok, I've calmed down slightly now so will try and post without smashing each key as I type ... Someone on Twitter explains it far better than I could as to why this is such a disappointing appointment: The most obvious inefficiency being our poor tactical structure and defence - we're hiring an assistant manager who conceded 203 goals in his last 128 matches at club level. So what is SOD going to add to this club? What will Rodgers learn from him? We complain when big players like Suarez and Sterling try to force to leave the club, and we're quick to tell them to p*ss off without understanding why and instead choose to blame it on greediness and being money hungry. Why do quality players want to play with the mid table doss and work under coaches who have no experience of working with top players, at elite level and with no success on their CV?
Again.. Not one mention of his actual qualifications As I said he took over at Bristol city when rock bottom. Forest was a basket case So that goal stat ignores and good work he actually did for 10 other years I would simply like to know what he's done in terms of qualifications as I've an idea for me what's the minimum I expect there. I'll patiently wait to hear.
A certain Ex- Bluenose manager being recruited by a club not far from Anfield and now sacked comes to mind..
sensible! We should be seeing a presser tomorrow we think for official unveils of players. preseason training starts next monday so it would be sensible to get it well out of the way this week.
This was an opportunity to send out a strong signal of intent. What statement does this new signing send out ? Seriously, anybody interested, put into one sentence what this appointment signals/signifies.
Our dedication to attractive, expansive football, giving people a chance and installing the men who we feel are right for the job and not being distracted by big names or outsiders' opinions.
To be fair, I genuinely do. But there's also a lot not contained in that statement and it doesn't mean that I'm confident that the idea will succeed. But now the decision's been made, I'm willing to give him a chance.
It's a situation I'm not used to being in tbh. I always stay positive on signings, heck I was excited when we signed Mario, but my spidey sense tells me this is very Roy-esque. [Football related only] - I had this completely deflated feeling when Shanks was sacked, when Roy signed and now ... and it's all to do with the club not sending out the right signals or doing the 'right' thing.
This club became small time as soon as they sacked Rafa and hired Roy. Wrong people making the wrong decisions at this club.
I'm mad with myself as well for even considering that Rodgers would work with a 'name' like Pako for example. No way he will work alongside someone who is 'better' than him - and don't ask me to define better in this instance.
