David McGoldrick sounded very dangerous, sounds like he is finally realising his potential Last season you would have beat us after scoring so early but this season we have a new found resilience and we know how to respond to going a goal down and we know how to hold leads Well you dont have to see David Nugent again now until February so good luck until then
McGoldrick is a cut above some of the rest of our team I think that's becoming more and more evident. We're still four or five players short of the top sides in the division.
Too many missed chances, Tunni missed a sitter at 1-0 Murphy also wasted a couple of good chances.! What annoys me most is what planet does MM think Nouble is a footballer, he is a waste of space.! I also hate David Nugent a bit more each time I see him play.!
You have been badly managed for years now with Keane and Jewell. Mick is turning things around for you but it takes time, too many unless players are still under contract for you so until then Mick's hands are tied I see some similarities between you and where we was when Nigel took over the 2nd time. Give Mick time and he will make you a team to challenge for promotion again, patience is the key at times
Was interesting to hear Mick Mills talking about Hewitt today, he was disappointed and he did say he didn't feel he'd been given much of a chance. On some things Mick's judgement is so easy to question and it's frustrating when so much is right.
It's massively disappointing. The highs of Blackpool followed by another defeat. MM substitutions are all to predictable. I'm not knocking him cos I still think he's done a lot for us but I do think tactically sometimes he's lacking. Wait with baited breath to hear from attendees as to how we played and what we deserved.
Spot on with your assessment for the first paragraph there Proud Fox and things are certainly improving but taking it onto that next level, still not sure Mick can do it, then again he's not been given any money yet.
We're still getting back to basics. We've stopped shipping goals and now all we need to do is add one or two better players each transfer window to push us on. Mick's tactics could well be the result of the players he has at his disposal, but I can't help feeling we could attack just a bit more.
I agree SD but that said if we had of gone gung ho whilst one nil up i'm sure many(including me) would have questioned that move..............still plenty of season left.
Positives to take but very frustrating.. Leicester didn't threaten much, kept the ball well but we held them at arms length and didn't offer anything ourselves... then they scored and the did what was needed Again, midfield was poor. Anderson too lightweight and added no width. Skuse & Tunners were a tennis net for large parts and didn't provide support to strikers.. McG was a positive and looked good even in midfield. Very frustrating to see a Leicester side (who by their standards) had a poor game, all look comfortable on the ball, all offer for the ball.. compared to our tunnel vision/one dimensional style that's becomes all too predictable. There for the taking but let it slip
You're right Hampy. We need players like McG and Cressy in our team to attract better players. The more quality you have in your team the easier it is to bring quality in. I think that's been our problem lately, we've been selling our best players causing us to remain an average squad and then when we go in for good players they're not really interested in joining us.
The way I see it, Mick goes for the safe approach from the start, trying to keep things tight at the back and playing a more defensive brand of football. For me it's the opposite of how it should be done. I would prefer to see a more attacking line up from the off to see if we can get a couple of goals in front early and then make defensive substitutions to see the match out instead of starting out cagey and then making subs to try and get back in it.
Pretty spot on appraisal SD. We're not the attractive proposition we once were. We've had to sell to stay afloat. Keeping the likes of cressy is important. Dids is potentially a star in wà iting, and IMO suited to playing behind a striker. But we need to keep hold of these guys to hopefully attract some more names to push us on and get rid of this unenviable record of being in the league longer than anyone.
Whats the saying? The best means of defence is attack!! Have to say i would not have played smith today but there what do i know? Also think chambers against Dyer was a disaster waiting to happen!
Not a bad assessment at all KOPR although let's not gloss over the fact that it was Didsy who gave the ball away cheaply on the edge of their box.!
We never took advantage after the early strike, and never really looked like scoring after that, with this team we are never going to challenge for a top six spot. First time I have seen Mings, and on this performance was not impressed, lost his man on many occasions, and generally left too much space for the opposition to work in, would not be fair to judge him on one appearance, but for me, he was like a fish out of water. Once again the lack of pace was exposed yet again, with our defence failing to deal with some quick attacks, the defence is unbalanced, Chambers needs to move into the middle, as he took a roasting today from Dyer. Have said this before, but Tommy Smith is just not good enough, lack of pace, mobility, and agility, which is why you often see him just aimlessly boot it anywhere. It is beyond me to see what Anderson adds to the team, he just makes no impact whatsever. Tabb gets involved in the action, but again makes no major impact, and Murphy is just not consistent enough for this level, good players are on their game most of the time, and indifferent games are the exception
I agree to a point but only 2 players out there today weren't Mick signings, so it is a Mick McCarthy team. It's hard to tell whether it was because Micks had so little money to spend that he's recruited some pretty average players or just that's the type of player he recruits. For me the problem has been he has signed too many players of a similar ilk and even some of the players we let go I know they weren't the best for us but at least they would've offered us something different and more penetration i.e JET and Martin. We're all huff and puff with no real spark which is also how you could describe Micks tactics, the games we play in are all generally tight, teams rarely out play us but that's not because we've outplayed them more that we've stopped them from playing, none of the teams we've under Mick have really looked that great. We're very lucky to have Mick and I'm sure the longer he stays with us the better we'll get but his stubborness and his caution isn't half frustrating particularly as he clearly has talent as a manager he's just too predictable in terms of recruitment and how he sets his teams up, exciting it ain't but at least we're not in a relegation fight this season!
Problem is thats what Mick does gets back to basics, his teams never go beyond that, it can be effective up to a point but he never seems comfortable going beyond that. I do think he's been restricted with who he's been able to bring in but it's clear to see the type of player he likes, the grafters
