Town players: Jayson Leutwiler Jermaine Grandison, Mickey Demetriou, Mark Ellis, Nathaniel Knight-Percival James Caton, James Wesolowski, Connor Goldson, Ashley Vincent James Collins, Scott Vernon Subs: Craig Durran, Mark Halstead, Liam Lawrence, Jean-Loius Akpa Akpro, Jordan Clark, Akwasi Asante, Andy Robinson, Dom Smith, Ben Burton, Josh Ginelly, Cameron Gayle A welcome return to the meadow with a squad we hardly recognised and numbers that didn't natch up with the programme. Some very positive moments in the firsg half with it ending in a Collins goal. Defense looked fairly good bar a couple of sleepy moments, Leutwiler came out for a ball and flumoxed it, thankfully no one from chesterfield filled the box to take control of it. Caton looked a real handful on the wing and Wesolowski was solid in cm spotting danger as it was developing. Goldson was played as a cm midfielder too. Second half brought on many a new player including Halstead, Lawrence, Akpa Akpro, Asante, and Gayle. closely followed by Robinson, Curran (listed as Durran but classic STFC trick), Jordan Clark. Goldson was moved into defense. Town seemed to be playing more solidly and the ball was being in the opposition half more. Asante and Akpa-Akpro were linking up well with Robinson providing some hight quality accurate passes and dead ball passes. Curran and Clark also seemed to be doung well. Although not fast Robinson showed some real quality and is a tricky player to defend against, also provided many long/short passes that gave the attackers opportunities. Looking forward to my next friendly, Watford, ans to the start of the season. Hope we can sign some of the trialist, especially Asante.
Least impressed by Asante of the trialists. Curran, obviously, had more of an idea of getting goals. Seems to be in the right place at the right time. Impressed by Clarke and Robinson (but his age and staying power might prove to be against him). Vernon and Colins look to be already making a good pairing. Caton and Vincent certainly have potential out wide. Wesolowski, for a small bloke, was immense. Defence was very suspect particularly Ellis but improved when Goldson was moved back 2nd half.
Thanks for the reports guys - sounds very promising. I am currently holidaying on Anglesey but will return via Shrewsbury on Saturday for the Watford game - from what I know of the triallists I would prefer Robinson more than anybody - he has that creative spark from midfield that we have been sadly lacking in recent years.
If on Anglesey, I highly recommend the ice cream parlor in Beaumearis. We didn't get to it but the White Eagle near Roscolin beach on Holyhead is v.good, beach is lovely too. South Stack on holyhead isworth a trip to see the birds too.
Matster, Thanks - off to South Stack today and will definitely try out the others - have you any recommendations for Stockholm as I am going there in a couple of weeks. I do not usually bother with friendlies but am interested to see all the new players and I hope West Brom and Watford bring decent sides.
