RIP To a true Town legend and condolences to his family. You will always be remembered with a great deal of affection in Suffolk. http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/town-legend-ted-phillips-dies-at-84-1-5347550
And I was lucky enough to have watched both Ted & Ray Crawford, God what a lethal partnership they were. Phillips key was a strong left & right foot. Oh, and Sir Alf really bringing him on. And he cost just £8 a week!! Misty eyed I am for those amazing games, when the whole of Ipswich would roar and shake at every goal - 40 a season, no worries! What a legend you were, and what a great match day you gave us. RIP and how we wish we had the likes of that team.... and manager!
I remember Ray Crawford's "original" hand of God goal against Everton in the cup, Maradonna was nothing but a copycat!
Like Dave I am old enough to have seen Ted play several times although it was at a time when you were usually in a higher division than us so fixtures between our Clubs were not common. In those days there was not the nastiness in the local rivalry there is nowadays and I freely admit to trips to Portman Road to watch that team play. Like many other players of that generation he always seemed a nice man who was grateful for the opportunity life had given him and I am sad to hear of his passing.
