Roglic had a guy with him Sepp Kuss who might have been very high in GC if it hadn't been for guarding Roglic.... G essentially had to do not all himself, his team have faded when they reached the Dolomites... as you say a great effort anyway.
Geraint Thomas does an impromptu lead out for Mark Cavendish to help him win the final stage at the Giro.
I think you'll find that Don Revie had the most staged wins, oh ... The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Always warms my heart that L**ds United felt they should erect statues of 2 ex Hull City players at Elland Road.
Quite emotional watching the reaction to his win from both him and the rest of the race. The phrase ‘Greatest of all time’ is bandied around far too frequently (if understandably) to usually mean the best at the moment, but by any reasonable measure he was already the greatest sprinter in the history of cycling and his achievement today sets a marker for stage wins that I can’t imagine being beaten in my lifetime.
Just an amazing Stage 9 going on at the moment.... gravel sections, riders getting off and running up the hills.. Vingergaard had a major mechanical had to swap to a bike too big for him etc etc...
poor pidcock....furious with himself at that. been a great tournament so far, going big early I think has added something to the first week, and some surprise winners of stages too
I've watched all the highlights of the Tour so far, and the racing between Pogacar & Vingegaard has been outstanding. After yesterday's stage though Pogacar has really found the measure of Vingegaard, and bar accidents or Covid, as there are a few dropping out because of it, Pidcock being one, then Pogacar is home are dry already.
Looks it JEX... BUT.... i've watched full stages with the intention of just watching 30 mins or so its just enthralling to me, mind numbingly boring to others im sure. Yesterday was just magnifique, they broke the record for the climb and even Wout Van Art only beat the cut off by 9 minutes (team mate of Vingagaard. He said it had been really tough for his team, no Sep Kuss and others and you have to remember VIng' was in intensive care with a punctured lung and broken bones 3 months ago. Van Art was saying yesterday they wanted to hurt all of UAE team and there are still the alps to go, so perhaps not over yet. Cavendish made the cut off with I think 3 minutes to spare and the commentary team were saying that he will have been spitting feathers. that he had a bit more time, but it just shows the respect he has for the race that he wants to get to Nice,. Thats what knighthoods are for..!!!!
Adam Yates, before the stage, told Pogacar that, that was the toughest climb he had ever experienced, just unrelenting.
Well, with only the time trial left today, the top 3 in GC already settled. Podacar is untouchable this year, and the way he is going, he is going to surpass Cav's 35 stage wins in the not too distant future.
I was thinking when out pedalling yesterday how much the TDF is getting/ was getting like formula one... the best teams and then the rest. Pogacar (this years beast) and Vingergaard are in a league of their own and you have to wonder where the next kid off the block is. There will be one of course. I was also thinking how they could offset this 'team dominance' and for me, the simplest way to do it is to eliminate the radio communications. There might be as an example a radio blackout from 60km from the finish. I personally think this would make for better racing. I dont think Pogacar will ever eclipse Cavendish JEX. He's only 25 of course, but these mountain stages he wins take their toll.
The decline of Sky / Inneos Grenadiers shows the transience of dominant teams, and to some degree riders. It's always been like this to some degree and mirrors other sports, probably suits sponsors and leads to longevity, probably...
Actually JEX I take that back... Pogacar has just obliterated the field in the final stage and `TT today.... 93kmh at some stages ..!@!@....
