Under the old rules it was a foul because he touched the man before he got the ball. Under the current rules it would have to be a 'careless tackle', whatever that means, which makes it up to the ref. From where the ref was standing it would have been very hard to see in any case. Personally I've no worries in refs not giving decisons because they have not been able to see it properly. It's when they make stuff up that hasn't happened that I get irate.

I thought the non-penalty on Gallas just about exactly evened out with the non-penalty on the shirt pull--especially as I seem to remember it was a hold and a shirt pull. A lot of second dates don't get that far. Anyway, I didn't think either team had cause for complaint.

I also would have wanted Dembele in most, that he was the one player who could get us some traction in midfield. Bale may score one and set up one, and he may not do anything notable. I thought Gallas ran out of gas, which he might not have done had Dembele been in. I wouldn't be so harsh on Gallas. He was awful, but he was very good up until then. I'm not so sure how much Kaboul would have helped. If anyone could have kept our defense together it would have been Ledley.
