He dropped two crosses against Panathaniakos. Villa is a good game to introduce him gently to the Premier League, they don't have such a physical presence these days but as I say, I think Brad's very unfortunate to miss out. I'm sure the fans at the game will be excited to see him get a chance, everyone got behind him in the Lazio game.
Yep he did, but he came for them. Brad doesn't come for crosses so that makes him by far the shakier keeper. It's inevitable if you come for crosses you won't get them all, that doesn't make a keeper shaky in my book. It's what happens overall in the game. I think Brad is unfortunate to miss out, but I think Lloris is the better keeper, and everything I've seen of the two keepers this season has confirmed that, for me. Today, will tell us so much more.
Lloris is the only surprise and I think it's a very harsh way for Friedel to lose his record, but we all knew that it was going to happen sooner or later. Hopefully the defence won't give him a lot to do and he'll have a comfortable introduction to English league football.
Agreed, it had to happen at some point. Brad's 310 consecutive starts never looked like ending, and at some point we've got to make the bold move of putting our new long term goalkeeper in place. no better time to do it, than in a home game against a team we should beat. wise move.
I wonder if this'll shut Deschamps up, now? He seems to have decided to go after Wenger instead, which is preferable, but it probably highlights what a dick he is.
seems like criticism is inevitable for AVB now that he has picked Lioris and dropped Brad..im all for the decision.....was inevitable....and its a squad game...plenty games for Brad to play in this season aswell...and for every clanger Lioris makes..AVB will get it in the neck. haters will be haters... by the way is it true if we win today then its our second best start to a PL season?
See I think that's wrong and I think this gets to the heart of how I think you were wrong about the OT game. A bad/good call is a bad/good call regardless of the outcome. So a call to have Man Utd come on to us for an entire half is bad even if it flukily works. Put it this way: If you give me 2/1 odds of rolling a 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 on a six-sided dice and I decide to bet that is a good call. If I'm unlucky enough to then roll a six that does not make my call bad. It merely makes me unlucky. Playing Lloris is either a good call or a bad call now, based on the facts available now. What happens in the game cannot change this.
It's a rubbish situation this GK business - Friedel hasn't done anything wrong to get dropped but when would be a better time to put Lloris in? Waiting for the end of the season is not good - we'd have a similar situation to De Gea at Man Utd after VdS retired. AVB couldn't win in this situation.
Decent start. Both Bale and Defoe should've at least tested the keeper, though the latter was offside again and Lloris makes an early claim from a cross.
i think Friedel probably has taken it a bit better than what most would like us think...hopefully we get a clean sheet and this shoves another boot down the AVB haters throat.
i agree Lenny..GH just made himself look like a fairweather fan with that statement.. 'Naturally,if Hugo ****s up,then it will become a bad call' surely your understanding of football is deeper than that.
Bale diving again, there. May have been anticipating getting clattered, but he's gone down with absolutely no contact. Don't like to see that.
Wow, that absolutely redefines football dives. Pathetic. Really pussy ref not to show him a yellow there.
Yeah, I think that's what it is. I don't think he appealed afterwards and if Guzan had gone in there he'd have had a bad injury.
