In truth, we don't know what was offered by whom for Modric, as we only have the journos' say so on all of this. I cannot imagine that Levy would accept less for Modric than he was offered 3 months ago, so I am more inclined to believe that stories of what was offered were exaggerated by the journos. Also, I really don't see the point in trying to keep Modric at the club if he is determined to leave. We're making a good profit on him at £27m, and we should easily be able to get at least one decent striker for that.
£27m doesn't get you very far in the striking department, which is where it's critical we buy. £27m doesn't get you Llorente (even before his wages). £27m doesn't even get you Moutinho, a midfielder who's probably the closest thing to replacing Modric. I literally can't get my head round just how bad this deal is for us. Yes it's good he's gone in terms of disruptive influences but this deal should've happened months ago when we had time to reinvest. Levy must've thought 'I held off Chelsea, I can hold off RM' - well unfortunately we needed to shift Modric to buy strikers. RM knew this and so they just had to wait - let's face it RM don't NEED Modric - they just want him. We NEED strikers - RM had us over a barrel from the start and it was always going to end like this. AND let's not forget that a portion of this transfer goes straight to Zagreb (I think) as Modric's old club get 5% (I think) of the transfer fee - so that's even less dosh to play around with.
What does it matter what we get for Modric? 27 million, 35 million, 40 million?.....are we meant to believe the higher fee received, the higher amount will be spent on incoming players?.......last time we sold Berbatov for 35 million, what we end up? Pav & Frazier Campbell.
jesus christ. my night has just got even worse. thanks for bringing that up Boss. lovely encouraging thoughts there....
you wait Moorph, it'll just be some twat in the studio casting their opinion on everything we've all been speaking about tonight!!
he would do nicely. we'd need more, but I would not say no to getting Hernandez. However, you know it'd probably be a loan, if we were lucky enough. we need stability.
That's probably true actually - but we might hear a bit more on if there's any players coming our way. Apparently we're gonna use to money to bid for Llorente - can't see that happening. God I'm so negative atm - sorry guys!
Marca are also saying (unreliable I know) that the reason Rattys move is being held up is that we are working on signing his replacement at the same time...
Juve are shaking things up - Giovinco has already come in, Llorente may be following, whilst they've already shipped Toni out...maybe they need Vucinic or Quagliarella to follow?
