I can see Dempsey playing as a forward anywhere in a front 3. I think 4-3-3 is inevitable. I reckon he can cover ade as he has the qualities needed. Dembele is the deeper player and absolute class in that role. Lots of good options now with very versatile players

HI NSS, I think people like myself are putting him alondside Sandro, because they/I see him as a powerful strong player. My view is that Sandro would hold, but Dembele would be box to box, helping out as and when.

If, as you say he can't do the deep business, then fine

play 4-1-4-1 with the same personnel, or however you you want to slice it - 4-1-2-3, whatever.

If we need two DMs and Parker isn't there, then stick in Livermore.

Modric couldn't play DM, so it's not as if we've lost out on that score.

Exactly, we've got so much more options after this week's business.

No, you didn't, it was me being a nob.
I'm coming round to the Dempsey idea and i think it could work with bale and Defoe. But I think dempsey would have to be the middle of the 3 and Defoe the right, neithers strongest position.

When vdv left early doors I really thought new striker2 was on the way with sig in for vdv.

We need to be looking for 10+ from Dempsey, sig and bale and 20 from Ade (give some of those elsewhere if he's off to ACON)

I think it's important to remember that football is first and foremost a team game. Ticking off the attributes of individual players is not as important as how they will fit the team. It could be argued for example that when VDV joined we had problems with accommodating him into the team and performances dropped despite having the great player that VDV is. IMO there are only two areas where great individuals can make a big difference, striker and goalkeeper. A top goalkeeper is essential for any top team you cannot hide from that but a top striker, whilst desirable, is not quite as essential if the team as a whole performs well enough to produce the chances that non specialists can take advantage of.

It remains to be seen how well our new players can gel with the old to produce a 'better' team but motivation is a huge factor in football and we now have a team and manager with much to prove and that can only be helpful.

    As a nuetral..
Must say regardless of who plays where in whatever system Spurs use for any particular game. From this transfer window Spurs HAVE made some brilliant signings.

    Good luck fella's.. <ok>

Hi Spurm, yep getting the balance right to accommodate JD is going to be a difficult one. Which is why I think he would have been better off going and us getting in someone like Carroll

But it is what it is, now AVB has to learn how to deal with it

He was talking/implying at one stage we'd have Ade/JD/Kane - frightening

I woul hope if we're losing Ade to the ACN we'll buy again Jan. We may need to anyway if the JD Dempsey Bale back up idea doesn't work

    Excellent post Spurf

This team probably can't play the champagne and caviar football that we produced at our best last season, but in the end we won nowt and ended up in the Europa

Here's hoping this team have the mental and physical strength to win something and/or get CL.

Thanks for that PM - we've had our differences in the past, and I fear we will again, but appreciate your kind words.

I'm not going to unsticky this yet, as I have a sneaky suspicion that we're not quite done yet.
Villas-Boas said that three was enough, when referring to our strikers and Kane's loan means that we've now only got two, unless he sees Dempsey as one of the three.
The likes of Owen or Heskey would force me to facepalm myself into unconsciousness, but there are a few other options available.

Everytime I see the free agents list I just think that Harry would have had an absolute field day this summer.

Yes, I love to watch open, attacking football as much as anybody. But, after more than 50 years following this club, I just want to see us WIN something again before I pop me clogs. Unless AVB turns out to be the messiah that Abramovich first thought he was, I can't see this current squad doing it.

He'd be looking to sign an entire team!

Can we sign Ivan Klasnic? He's probably not good enough, but he's Croatian.

  15. Well, apart from some really interesting signings and some money left in the kitty for mid-term (if necessary) what these changes represent is that it is time for AVB to prove his worth. No excuses!

Assuming that he was involved in the acquisition of Verts and Sig, this means that he has brought in 5 players (+ Ade) of his own choosing and made significant changes to the establishment of the club - something he never got to do at the Chavs.

Not expecting miracles overnight tho' a victory today is damn important, but IMO there needs to be evidence of the system working - and working well - in the next few weeks. This is as important for the players to 'buy into' the system as much as it is for us fans.

Personally delighted with the business done and really looking forward to seeing this new side developing.

    COYS!!!!

I actually would not say no to Klasnic at all, we need more options in the striking department, and he can score a goal on his day.

Updated the OP for Kane's loan.

Disappointed that we didn't sign Joao - I got all excited when I heard it might be back on.

Moutinho and Damiao in January then!

If you're talking about the title then that won't happen till we get a 'messiah' like RA in. We won't do it under ENIC, no way.

If you're talking about a trophy, Redknapp won nowt with us, so it won't be difficult to match that.

Our only trophy winning manager has been RAmos under ENIC, and he doesn't get enough credit for it, IMO.

This team can definitely win a trophy, and if AVB is a bit more canny than Redknapp in his 'rotation' we may well do it.

I can't disagree. Unless some rich Arab sugar daddies come along and buy the club, there's just no way we can hope to compete with the financial firepower of the likes of City & Chavski. So, unless the current governing bodies suddenly grow a pair of balls and do something about levelling the playing field off a bit, we are never going to win the Premiership.
I hope you're right about this squad. But, I still fear that it will take time to gel them together. I would have been far happier had we secured Moutinho - class act!.
