This is what NewsNow looks like at the moment...
    Moutinho signed
    Moutinho deal in doubt
    Moutinho to sign
AVB says Moutinho might not come
Moutinho deal looks to be sorted
    Moutinho deal falls through
    Moutinho in negotiations
    Spurs turn attention to Dempsey

    Yeesh...

Oh, in other news, Bruno Uvini signs for Napoli. If he has a great season, I'll be annoyed.

Well so far my claim of us not signing anyone today still stands.

At one point I thought I was gonna have to take those words back - I probably will still have to as I think we'll get Lloris - that'll be it though.

I think with the money made up that we should get 3 or 4 players in (which we need)

a keeper and midfielder is not enough. we need another defender too I think

Apparently we've been talking to Moutinho again. If we got him and Dempsey I'll be more than content :D

One other thing to mention is: How different have our signings been to what would have happened if Harry was still here? The Vertonghen and Ade deals were lined up already. Was the Sigurdsson one in the pipeline? I can't remember now. Point is that it's telling that, whether Harry was in place or we had no manager or AVB is in place the transfer targets and possible deals have not varied a great deal. That surely says a lot about the uncommon influence that our chairman has over footballing affairs.

Regardless of anything else, we still need another striker. I heard we tried and failed to get Berbatov, who probably made more sense than anyone (except for his salary).

Everything seems to have gone dead on the transfer deals for spurs. After being excited this morning about us finally getting things done i now feel completely let down.... still some time to go tho

Afaik, Loris is a top keeper, rated by many pundits as one of the best in the world. He will actually be the best player at the club in terms of status, it'll be a massive signing for us. He's captain of France, Kaboul struggles to get in the team, the gulf is considerable.

  10. Slightly cross- thread, but if anyone wants to feel a bit happier amidst all this turmoil, take a look at the Goons Transfer thread.
Self-immolation of the highest order: regarding Essien as the possible 'capture of the window'!!!
Apparently Moutinho (who he?) wouldn't make ther 1st team anyway........

I'm more concerned about a striker than Moutinho, if we get Loris and Dempsey in, I'll be reasonably pleased with the window, as that would mean our team would be stronger overall compared to last season, IMHO.

    Let down by spurs?
If you are young...get used to it mate
If you are old...you should be used to it by now!

VdV is the only decent last minute signing I can remember...most have been ****e so I ain't holding my breathe on Dempsey, Lloris or Multinho...

Damn. Considering his quality as a pundit, it means it's certain it won't.

He's finally become more pessimistic about Liverpool these days and maybe he's becoming more generous to Spurs in the hope that he can revel in being wrong or at least not face the taunts of being an idiot when we outperform his club again.

  16. G10 - Lloris is a top player and I am happy that we appear to have signed him up, but IMHO he is no marquee signing and in the list of 'musts' for THIS window, a GK comes below a fwd, Mods replacement and CB - not to mention someone who can also provide the VDV goals.

Going by his form at his previous clubs Sig should be able to make up the goals that we miss through losing VdV.

We don't know if Dembele is meant to be playing the Modric role yet but we definitely need another creative midfielder, having lost Modric, VdV, Kranjcar, Pienaar and Dos Santos and only brought in Dembele and Sig.

Looking forward to Lloris massively though. We desperately need to shift a couple of goalkeepers now though.

I would have been happy with Mout + lloris had we kept vdv. We would still be threadbare in the goalscoring department but I would've been satisfied.
With vdv gone we NEED another striker or a fairly prolific mid. I can't help but think there has been a MASSIVE cock-up today.
