Well, 9 days left to go before the transfer window closes. Once again, we are about to be treated to the last gasp flurry of activity that seems to be our trademark recently. I suppose, that as Spurs fans, we should be used to this by now. Levy's brinkmanship, and all the tension that goes with it.

I know that it's obviously his job to get the best deal that he can, and that he would say that he's acting in the club's best interests. But, is he? I'm not going to claim that had we had Ade playing on Saturday that we would have got a different result. But, we may well have done. So, what happens next? Dawson looks to be on his way ( not entirely sure about that one) also, it is said that Bentley, Jenas, Dos Santos, and others are up for sale. The Modric saga is turning into a longer runner than "The Mousetrap" IF he finally goes to Real in the next week, are we going to get a suitable replacement in time? Will we get another, younger keeper? How about another striker? I'm still pissed off that we didn't just snap Damiao up a year ago, when we had the chance. But, as usual, we tried to play Poker with somebody who's holding all the aces.
You have to feel a little sorry for AVB in all this. It can't be easy trying to plan, when you don't even know who will be with you next week.
One thing never changes over all these years. Being a Spurs supporter is definitely not for those of a nervous disposition.

I'm not confident at the moment even with Ade signing. I want to see a couple of wins first then I'll change.

i'm staying positive. After 2 games last season i was sure Harry was gonna get fired. I was right, but it took a bit longer than i expected and we had a pretty good season.

seems odd that Hudd ends up at stoke on loan, they aren't exactly known for their passing.

I'm not nervous because I will refuse to hope.

Getting Ade back turned the corner on a bleak outlook for this window for me. People complaining that Man City ticket holders were financing a rival's salary put a smile on my face. Having said that, this looks like quite a revolving door. Dawson and Hudd out. Another striker and a couple of other players probably coming in the trademark flurry of activity. While I'm concerned about the willingness to jettison players who'd worked hard and are fan favorites, it's more than balanced by the fact that all the deals so far seem well-conceived and shrewdly made. Players' quality continues to rise without spending more money on them, which may be as much the bottom line as anything.

AVB is being dealt a difficult hand, but it's better to get the team as much as possible to his liking through the end of the month than to do it later than that. With Ade, I feel the squad is as strong as it was last year (minus Modric, plus Gylfi and Vertongen)--or near enough.

The most interesting question is replacing Modric. It looks like there might not be a like for like replacement, and that this is part of the switch from counterattacking to pressing. Modric was vital in starting the counter. Maybe AVB figures they don't need that kind of player with his style, just quality defensive mids... Anyway, it will all continue to be interesting.

I would've thought AVB would want a direct replacement for modders. He desperately wanted modders for his chelsea revolution playing the same style

Good point. So who do you think it will be? The strange thing for me is signing Gylfi and having two attacking central midfielder who should start, while having 0 playmakers.

Who knows if AVB will play SIg & VDV in the same team, seems a shame if its either/or.

Yeah, I keep playing around with options... Gylfi in the Modric role (wastes his centering and scoring)...Gylfi on the left or right (dropping Lennon? Lennon genuinely works in this team...) How's about 4-4-1-1,

    Bale - Sandro - Gylfi - Lennon

    VDV

    Ade.

Granted, we still have Gylfi in Modric's role, but maybe he gets forward more...

I can't be alone in thinking we would've been more active this summer if it wasn't for the external factors affecting Levy?

Think about it: He needed a few weeks whilst his mother died and was buried, and once that was done there was a flurry of activity - Harry sacked, Villas-Boas brought in, Vertonghen and Sigurdsson signed, and Bale's new contract. Then his wife became seriously ill, but once again he came back and this week we've signed Ade, sold Dawson and Bassong and loaned out Hudds.

It can't be a coincidence, can it?

You have to feel for the guy, and there's probably some truth in what you say. If it weren't for the fact that this seems to happen almost every year, it would be easier to believe that those are the main reasons for our delayed activity.
