Huh? Thought it was a loan. Surely he just gets the same amount he's on and its just a matter of how much of it Villa pay and Spurs pay?
Jordan Veretout has signed for Villa on a five year deal, having previously been linked with us and everyone else in the Prem. Undisclosed fee and I've no idea if he's any good, but it rules out another supposed target of ours. I'm increasingly convinced that the press have very little clue what we're doing in the market, unless it leaks from the other side.
I am getting quite concerned at the lack of activity in the transfer market, we are a week away from the first game of the season and we only have one striker. We have two friendlies next week against some of the best teams in Europe and we will be playing youth team players, its a joke. Is Kane going to play every game this season or what. At this rate i can see the likes of Stoke and villa overtaking us, they seem to be a lot more ambitious.
I'm also a bit nervous but look, it's been a blissfully stress-free window so far. For once we've conducted our business both ins and outs quickly and quietly without the traditional circus. I think the problem now is that we've hit a bit of a dead-end in terms of who's actually available to buy. The vast majority of potential targets have either been snapped up or signed new contracts at their current clubs. We're really left with McCarthy and Berahino as viable targets for the positions we need to strengthen, and both are likely to be completely over-priced and - in McCarhty's case - very loyal to his current manager. I reckon we'll end up keeping Soldado and playing Levy poker with Everton down to the wire in a deal involving Lennon plus cash for McCarthy. Mirallas was another name being thrown around at the end of the season, but that one's gone very, very quiet. I'd personally be more than happy if we bring in McCarthy and Berahino and maybe have a look at Charlie Austin. A lot of people are hoping for a marquee signing but it ain't happening until the stadium is built.
I said we should have picked up Austin when he left Burnley. There is nothing wrong with a striker that gets you goals imo. Especially for a club like Spurs
Got a raw deal because he was seen as a replacement for Berba who was so much more than just an onion bagger.
Just as well the club (Levy and Poch ) aren't panicking like some on here. We've got a good squad-stronger than last year-thanks to strengthening our defence. Yes , I would like a replacement striker for Ade, but there is time.
Gotta disagree with that. We finished 5th last season with a number of youth team players and young players in general, we could've likely done better had we had a better defence - which we've seemingly strengthened this window with Toby, Kevin and Kieran. We've also added Alli and Pritchard to the first team who were two stand out players in their respective leagues last season. From November onwards we pretty much only played with Kane up to anyway and I think it's pretty inevitable the club will be signing a striker or two once Ade and Soldado are off the wage bill which is looking to be very soon providing no hiccups with Villa and Villareal respectively. As for Villa and Stoke overtaking us, not sure what gives you that impression. Both teams have made a number of signings but none of them have made me envious and none would get into our first XI in my opinion, lets not also forget that Villa have lost their two best players in Delph and Benteke, I can't see any of their players from last season stepping up to fill their voids and so they're going to have to rely on new signings which is very risky. The fact that we're looking increasingly likely to keep all of our star players by the time the window closes and haven't lost any other players apart from the deadwood, should stand us in good steed along with the new defensive players and any other potential additions. I'm fully expecting us to finish in the top 5 again, Liverpool's spending hasn't concerned me one bit because Ms Brenda is still their manager and they've let go arguably the most inspirational figure the club has ever had in Gerrard, who was also their top scorer last season!
Villa have also signed Rudy Gestede today. If the rumoured fee is correct, then they've got a good deal at £6m. He's a striker though, which is a little worrying. They'll be very well stocked up front if they do sign Adebayor. Latest rumour for us is that we're in for Andriy Yarmolenko, a Ukrainian left-footed right-winger who plays for Dinamo Kiev. He's 25 and he's got a year left on his contract, so we might be able to force the issue with his club a little, but there are others interested. Scores about 1 in 3 for his club and a little more than that for his country, as well as getting plenty of assists. Their league's already kicked off, so he'd be match fit.
Yarmolenko's name came up around a couple of months ago, indeed some sites were talking about a double Ukrainian swoop with him and Konoplyanka (and we all know how that ended up...), although he's also been heavily linked with Everton. As I said a couple of months back, I'd love to see him in the team...although we'd probably have three months of lazy journalism drawing comparisons between him and Rebrov, even though anyone with half a brain and a vague understanding of research can see Rebrov would likely have done very well in any of the Jol, Redknapp or Poch teams - but Graham's tactics were so prehistoric I doubt Messi could've looked any good in them. Another striker we can cross off the list is Callum Wilson, who just signed a new four-year contract with Bournemouth. Although given they were expecting £12m for him at the start of the window, that probably saw us focus our attentions elsewhere. Lastly, today's odd rumour is that we're looking at Torino centre back Nikola Maksimovic, who has been likened to a Serbian Desailly. While he does look like a good choice, a few things make me question this: i.) For that sort of fee, Maksimovic would be expecting to start - yet we've got Verts and have just signed Alderweireld, plus we have Dier, Wimmer and Fazio as backup and Veljkovic potentially stepping up this season. Adding another centre back to the mix could affect the balance of the defence, or cause us to dick around by putting Alderweireld in central midfield for the sake of it. ii.) Adding another first-choice centre back would affect the number of minutes Dier and Wimmer would get, and both of them need time on the pitch so Dier can continue his development while Wimmer needs to get settled iii.) I can't be the only one who remembers the Serbian Beckenbauer being a lot less Kaiser than we were hoping...
He had a good thing going at Southampton and I understand why he wanted to go to Liverpool, but it was never going to work out for him there. I hope it works out better for him at West Brom as he seems a dece nt guy with a good attitude.
He must've been very depressed when he was being left out of a side without a striker. No idea why Rodgers signed him and then virtually refused to pick him. West Brom should be a good fit for him. He's quite suited to Pulis' style of play. Should be a decent replacement for Berahino...
