http://www.thetottenhamway.com/2015...r-spurs-despite-atleticos-desire-to-keep-him/ That article title is misleading interestingly. What the Spanish article says is that negotiations between Spurs and Atletico are at an advanced stage, that Atletico has received interest from other clubs, and that Spurs are leading the chase and don’t want to lose him to them. It also says that Atletico would rather keep him, haven’t given up hope of doing so, and that a final attempt will be made after he returns from his honeymoon, when the issue will be resolved one way or another. What’s odd is that the Spanish text describes a very plausible scenario, and doesn’t actually promise anything. It seems to indicate he probably will end up at Spurs, that there’s a decent chance he will stay with Atletico, and that any other result is unlikely. If it’s not completely legitimate, it’s written very cleverly to seem as if it is. The title of the article, "Tottenham near beating Chelsea for Alderweireld" is misleading as well, incidentally. please log in to view this image
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/gossip/ 3 rumours for us today! Mirallas again, Konoplyanka, and Victor Moses! I am not convinced by any of these, Mirallas would appear to be a good fit great one week, absent the next. Konoplyanka on a free is worth a go, as for Moses I really don't think he is any better than what we have already.
Sounds more like Atletico are worried they might not be able to screw the most possible from selling him!...
Mirror claim juventus about to sign lamela...kind of torn on that one, he ain't set the world alight but has got better and stronger as time has gone on so hope he stays but...if they offer our £30m back we should take it imo.
Konoplyanka spotted in Madrid ...yet it gets weird from here, as one version of events is that Levy is in Madrid to wrap up the Alderweireld signing, and suggested Kono fly there so he can conclude two pieces of business at the same time. A slightly less brain-scrambling rumour is Villa are going to loan in Carroll and Vejlkovic for the season.
My favorite headline of silly season so far, from the Guardian, of all places: "Manchester United: Club yet to Make Formal Approach for Coleman" So there’s no news on a front where there’s no rational reason to expect any. Yay! It keeps my head from exploding over the mind-boggling implications of Coleman becoming Man U’s assistant orange slicer.
The devil’s advocate in me is saying, what about getting nobody? Maybe this year we should give our young players every chance, and our squad a year to learn to work together. Why not Alli with Bentaleb in midfield, Dier at CB and Yedlin at RB? Give Mason, Pritchard and maybe Carroll and Trippier chances to earn places. Bring in Lennon to provide width on the right, and Soldado or Ade as extra strikers. Are they really going to be worse than whoever we bring in? Dier, Alli, Yedlin, Pritchard and Carroll could have big careers ahead of them. We had the youngest team in the league last year, just keeping it together under the same system should result in a big improvement. If we do get anyone, it should be an exceptionally talented young player, like Orrasco.
Although I see the gist of what you're saying, and we should definitely be giving the youngsters a chance (and I believe we will), we do desperately need cover for Kane and Eriksen - although we may have that in the squad already for the Dane - at the very least, and given the amount of CMs we seem to have that we want to shift over the summer I could see an addition or two there. I'm not sure the 'talented foreign youngster' model is one to be championed too freely either, what with the Lamela in the room! But at a much lower price they're probably more of a worthy risk to be taking to be fair. On another note, Guangzhou Evergrande appear to have released a photo on twitter confirming they have signed Paulinho. If the reported fee of €14 million is correct then thats cracking business from Levy.
Good luck to him. His time with us always seemed to be disrupted. Can't say that I'm too disappointed to see him go, though. Not sure Europe's ever going to work out for him.
I always feel we never played him to his strengths and he had a lot more to give. That being said, I wouldn't pick him over Eriksen nor would he be in my 2 so... My only worry is that the same fate awaits Lamela. I think to get the best out of him we need to let him sit further forward on that right hand side (basically what Chadli does on the left) but can you afford to carry players like that in the prem?
What I continue to find perplexing is that Roma played him not just in the same role that Chadli plays for us, but in the exact same position - yet at Spurs he's only played on the left a handful of times.
Wonder where it was taken? Looks like his agent's office, judging by the shirts. I'd still like to see Lamela given a go in the role behind the striker. It's where he's most influential, even when he's played out wide. The obvious problem is that it's Eriksen's best position by a mile and he's one of our best players, also by a mile. A good, consistent run in the cups might be the best solution, assuming that we keep him and buy wingers.
I have not ill will to paulinio and wish him well in his career but unfortunately for him he will always be regarded as a flop who hit THAT shot at Burnley Best for us and him that he has gone
Is it good business to recover £9.9M for a player who was, by and large, a flop? Or bad business to sell him for a £7.1M loss after 2 years (effectively costing the club an extra £70K for every week he was there)?
The alternative was to keep him, costing us another £70k a week whilst still not playing at the level we need So yes - best to cut losses here
