Davies has been pulled from the Swansea squad, according to thier website, and apparently, scout Ian Bloomfield has rejoined us instead of the goons
There are certain stories which seem to have some basis in reality, Davies being a good example. Most of the rest are ridiculous and based on nothing. I'm fascinated by my all BS all the time Tottenham transfer talk news gatherer. It's entertainment of a kind, if you have a weakness for the fantasy genre. I can't decide whether the Tevez or Reus rumors were more preposterous. And yet, Tevez presumably came up because he's Argentinean. A part of me hopes someone will break though the glass ceiling on fantasy, and talk about another compatriot of our manager, who may be disenchanted with the dismal turn taken by his present club, and interested in one that puts a high value on ideals. Hey, few people would have guessed Kilinsmann would have come here before he came...
I can't help but laugh about how long this Ben Davies saga has been going on. We're ****ing around over the fee for a half decent young promising LB, whilst all our rivals are signing quality players. It's so typical of spurs.
I like the name Ben because it has a certain Je ne sais quoi to it. Ben seems to be a name that has a certain reliability and steadfastness to it and because of that I'm happy with the signing and am certain he'll do well.
Not exactly transfer news, but the media are speculating about us extending Vertonghen's contract to stave off interest from Barca. Not to increase his value and any possible fee. No, sirree. Not that.
And last season we'd already broken our record transfer fee once and were in negotiations to do it a second time whilst Arsenal and United had to wait until deadline day to spend any money. City and Chelsea will spend regardless because they're stupid clubs, like it or not we did our transfers last summer and need to stick with them. The most important thing at the moment is getting the squad we've got at the moment training with the new regime. Early signings would be lovely but there's really no rush, a centre back and a left back is all we're short of in the squad as it stands, surely?
You found that very quickly PNP but it bears me out ay? You can't have a song about a Tim or an Arry can you?
Yeah I guess a CB and a LB is all we can hope for any way. IMO there other positions that need strengthening, but they'll never happen. But it's still embarrassing how long a deal for Ben Davies is taking.
I think that will be it as well. I just don't understand where all the money has gone (net) in the last 5 years. The answer or excuse will be the new stadium . Pouch will have his hands tied compared to the others above, who are truly strengthening. Arse are on another planet and at best OK football is the only thing we have to look forward to. Somebody has switched the lights off and wake the fans expectations up when the new stadium is up and running in the next decade.
Yeah I'm with you on that YV. Spurs fans on Twitter has been driving me nuts lately too, I only follow about 15-20 and most are mates but I somehow have a flooded timeline of people getting annoyed at us not signing anyone, I think sometimes fans just want a new signing for the sake of it, even if the person isn't actually required or a step up from what we've got. Like you say, we only need a LB and a CB, Davies is hopefully going to be that LB and according to a few whispers, the young Forest CB Jamal Lascelles (sp?) who's meant to be really good for his age is reportedly close while an enquiry for a young Argy midfielder has been put in though work permit issues may prevent us signing him immediately if at all. If Davies and Lascelles get up tied up, we've strengthened the required positions while retaining (or hopefully retaining) our key assets to help build on last season and give a good push for a top 4 spot. If Soldado, Lamela, Chadli and Paulinho - or even say two out of the four - can improve on their form of last season it'll be like having new players anyway.
Well yeah, I'm sure we'd all like better quality options in certain positions. But hey, if we save a few million by negotiating tough on the early deals then who knows, we might find we've got more money free for other transfers later. We spend £20mill more a year in wages than we did 5 years ago too.
Not sure about signing a young centre back if Dawson's going as I think we'll need to replace him with experience(assuming he's on his way out). Could be good if we're giving up on replacing Fryers though. Basically I'm just pleased we're looking at left backs and centre backs, if the rumours are true, as last season we didn't really address the issues in our squad before adding the extras. I still think we are going to end up with more signings than just defenders but I'm glad we're looking to sort the real problem positions first. I wouldn't be surprised if we're waiting to see if someone becomes available late in the window and maybe even going back to the exciting deadline days, which is a good thing imo.
Perhaps the club feels Jan, Kaboul and Vlad (though Vlad's just been reported with an injury, as has Sandro ) should be enough then Lascelles and Fryers (who looked better then than LB in my opinion) to learn the trade from them in cups? Plus we have Capoue if we're desperate. Surely we can't be plagued at CB forever when it comes to injuries though, never known a club to go through so many over recent years. King, Woody, Daws, Bass, Kaboul, Caulker, Vertonghen, Chiriches have all played a decent spell for us over say a 3-4 year period. When you look in the division; Utd have had - Rio, Vidic & Evans, Chelsea - Terry, Cahill, Ivanovic, Luiz, Arsenal - Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Pool - Skrtel, Agger, Sakho, Carragher, Stoke - Shawcross and Huth, Everton - Jagielka, Distin, Heitinga, Stones... Why do we seem to go through shed loads? It's unreal. As long as LB is sorted and we have enough options at CB, I'm happy with that for the Summer, anything on top is just an added bonus and a selection headache for Pochy.
I assume you mean Toure not Carragher and yes, they are vulnerable in those areas and with Kaboul's injury record I'd think we'd be very vulnerable too. I think we need 4 centre backs that we can be confident in and that have experience. I prefer Fryers at centre back too but I'd hope we either loaned him out or sold him, to be honest. Edit: Oh and Heitinga was gone by the time Stones came into things, wasn't he?
