I'd rather Eriksen than Lallana, can't see us playing both - especially if Lamela is back from he dead.
Yeah I would prefer Eriksen as well. Lallana would probably be a good option if Lamela is sold as he can play from the wing.
What's people's views on Eto'o? A few years back I thought he was the best striker in Europe and even though he's well past his prime, he still has that predatory instinct. His year at Chelsea wasn't spectacular but he was rotated with Torres and occasionally Ba and had a manager that didn't seem to have much faith in him if you went by Jose's comments. I know he's a mercenary so depending on what he's after financially, would anyone like to see the club take a punt if a deal was do-able?
Lallana is the first signing our new manager wants according to reports, guess we will have to wait and see what happens,as for eto'o,not for me now,i agree with Jose, past his sell by date
I'd definitely like to see us add some experience in attack this summer. My first choice would've been Berba but he probably wouldn't fit into Pochettino's style very well. Maybe Eto'o could add some experience but he's likely to be unaffordable or stretching our wage structure at least.
Don't really want Lallana, he's expensive and he plays in a position we don't really need to strengthen unless we're selling a few players first. It'd be good get to get a managers man in though so I won't be against it if he's what Pochettino wants but it looks like he's bound for Liverpool already.
First thing the manager needs to do is get our existing midfield playing as a unit rather than a bunch of strangers. If he does that its a VERY good midfield and they'll be able to offer up the chances Soldado likes. I think Ade might be off now his City wages are over. I'd pick up a solid if not spectacular forward to replace him. Our midfield has goals and i can't see us spunking another £20m+ on a striker. I wonder whether a cheeky bid for Wickham might be worth it. Left back a must.
I'm a big fan of Lallana but I don't think we actually need him, especially for a £20m+ fee, besides I think Eriksen is a better player. Both had similar goals and assists stats but Eriksen played in fewer league games, Lallana just got a lot more hype due to him being English and being part of Soton's "English revolution". All Poch needs to sort out in my opinion is LB and maybe a ST. If he wants to add a few more squad players then so be it but I think we have the foundations for a very good team under him and if he can find Erik Lamela, have an Argie convo with him and make the kid realise his potential, that'll be like having a new superstar signing anyway.
who do you think the gaffer will want to bring in? ship out? and a shoe in starter, maybe a surprise nominee?
what do people think of these rumours about picking up this 20yr old Belgian for £8m and also Remy for £8m. Personally i think these are exactly the sort of transfers we need to be making as a club with our finances and player draw. One will be a solid performer now and the other is a punt for the future. This is how we made our way up the table in the first place, signing the Lennons, Hudds, Bales of this world with the occasional moderately expensive player still on the way up (Berba, Modders)
I'd like to see us bring in A LB The new modric A striker (if we get shot of Ade) 1 CB. - (due to injuries) We can get a LB that's better than Rose for about £10m and a remy type striker will cost about the same. Also, we can probably get a half decent CB for 6 or 7 mill. It's the playmaker that could cost a fortune. But in true Levy fashion, we can sell to recover most of that. I think the midfield needs addressing and 1 or 2 need to go in order to help us sort the squad out in other areas. I can see 1 of paulinho, dembele, capoue and sandro being sold. And I have a nasty feeling that it'll be sandro.
Remy for £8 would be good business for us. He is however a money grabbing mercenary (the Newcastle fans I know hate him for turning them down and then coming crawling back to escape QPR) even by the standards of the modern game, and I thought I'd heard his heart was set on Chelsea or Arsenal to play in the CL? If either of those clubs go in for him, as they well might, we'd have no hope of getting him IMO. They can offer a higher level of football and wages. We need, in this order and assuming no significant first XI outgoings: 1. A Left Back 2. A Centre Back 3. A Striker 4. A midfielder who can finally play the Modric role (although there is plenty of potential for us to develop such a player from within the club - Holtby, Bentaleb, Carroll etc. so depending on what Poch thinks upon seeing the whole squad in training, we can buy or develop)
We aren't getting back into the top four by signing players like J rod, or trying to make Chadli work harder. City, Chelsea, the goons will all be top three and then that leaves us Liverpool, Utd and Everton fighting for 4th. With this appointment there is little chance of us getting back into the top four anytime soon. Utd could be title challengers if it all clicks into place so in reality if that happens then Levy will need to be more realistic as he picked the manager.
Pretty much agree with that, although I don't think Rose is anywhere near as bad as people make out. I can't see us selling Sandro though, his problem was with Sherwood and he's gone.
It's not because there's a problem with Sandro, YV, it's because I don't think Poch will favour him. From what i've witnessed of saints this year, he's going to want players who can play the ball. Sandro is a beast, but I have a feeling that someone like Dembele or Capoue, who seem better on the ball (as well as being strong), might be preferred.
Anyone seen much of this guy, and would he be good for us? http://metro.co.uk/2014/05/28/totte...on-transfer-offer-for-mattia-destro-4742655/?
The only problem with Rose is that he lacks concentration, gets caught ball watching, is easily wound up, can't cross for toffee and can't form part of a defensive line. On the plus side he does do 1 good shot a season, which usually goes in as a belter and he can run quick
I think it's his decision making that lets him down at times rather than his concentration but his crosses are pretty good, I think. He's good at tackling too, I think he'll come good soon enough but we definitely need some competition for him.
ohh... so the first player Poch wants just happens to be a Roma player?! How convenient given Baldini's link! If we're going to give this manager any chance, he's got to be signing the players he wants. I hope this isn't someone that Baldini/Levy are signing regardless.
The article did say Saints were watching him, so if that is true i assume Poch would be on board with it
