If Fazio's coming in for Dawson, that's not quite a straight swap, in the sense that we will have 18 non-HG players in our 1st team squad, one of whom will have to miss out. And a second, if we were to get Remy. So there may be more movement to come
So are people saying Fazio is a younger lankier of Dawson ?? Someone gave me a stat that he had won 120 out of 150 odd aerial duels last season in Serie A. But I quickly found a stat saying last season Dawson had won 120 aeriel duels too.
I've read that we and Utd want Silva and that Lamela"Is finally ready to prove himself for Tottenham" written by a journalist. I wish these pillocks would open their eyes because Coco was hardly given a long enough spell last season, none of this is his fault and I hope he scores today.
The Mirror are claiming that Welbeck wants to join Spurs and thinks that it will happen this week, either for £15m or a loan. I could almost see the sense in this, but the price tag is excessive. Pochettino may see him as an alternative to the injured Jay Rodriguez. He's fairly young, he's English and Homegrown, his workrate is exceptionally high and he's quite versatile. He'd expect to join a club where he'd be a starter, though and I don't see where he'd get into our first XI.
Tad bit off topic but thought you guys might fancy to spot some talents in the afternoon. At 3:45PM Ajax - PSV Eindhoven will kick off in the Eredivisie with plenty of talent to pick up in the coming seasons. I can start a thread for the match if you guys would like to watch it. If not, PNP can delete the thread, if you guys are interested I can spam s**tloads of links to the match and write some kind of match report. Awaiting your comments. please log in to view this image
PNP I agree buddy, Welbeck would be a great signing, he is athletic, pacey and is one of the hardest working players in the game. I dont see him as a CF although he can play there but has played many times for Man U and England as a LW/F so we could line up with Lamela, Eriksen, Welbeck in behind Adebayor.
With Dier playing decent, perhaps he's valuing playing time more than simply being a spurs player? Add to that the rumour of Fazio arriving and Dawson is probably behind 3 or 4 others before he'd start.
Yeah, I can understand that. But I think there was also a question of his testimonial, which he understandably didn't want to miss out on.
Supposedly Frederico Fazio on an EasyJet flight from Seville to Barcelona, heading to catch a connecting flight to London: please log in to view this image Could be bloody anyone though, frankly.
I feel quite sad about this Michael Dawson transfer. Whilst I do recognise his best days have probably gone, I can't help wishing there was more room for sentiment in football, because if there was, then he could have his well earned testimonial and he could have more playing time at a club he clearly holds dear to his heart. Some of the criticisms he has received over the past year, could also be applied to a couple of oir other defenders as well. But, our game has changed and it is Dawson who suffers the most from our high pressing game. I just hope he is remembered for his first 8 years with us and not his final year. Rarely in the modern day game do you get a guy like Dawson. A genuinely nice guy, unassuming and one who has always made time for the fans. I can think of a couple of players on the fringes at Spurs, who if they had half the attitude and commitment that Michael Dawson has, then they would be a damn sight closer to making it than they currently are. Steve Bruce must be delighted to have got him and he will be greatly missed at Spurs, as he was a thoroughly decent bloke to have around the club. He will surely get a well deserved mega welcome back whenever he returns to the Lane.
Dawson + Bassong : The 'not very good' CB pairing that played a lot of the PL games in the only season we got a CL slot.
I hope some sort of Michael Dawson day could still be arranged. He deserves it, and the club looks good to its players and fans when it honors players whose service has been exemplary.
Can't we just give Dawson a testimonial anyway? He's been at the club during 10 seasons plus this one, though the front and back won't have been full campaigns. Nobody's ever doubted his commitment to the cause and he seems to be a very nice bloke. Hope and expect a good reception whenever he returns to the Lane.
Ledley had his testimonial a year after quitting as a player. So why not Dawson at the end of this season if he has clocked up 10 seasons as a player ??
Dawson would have wanted to stay, not just because he had real passion for the club, but also because he would have wanted to perform to a standard that fitted his ability. Just unfortunately with him on the decline and us moving towards players who are more suited to a high pressing game, then while Dawson could still perform in a one off game, the days of him putting in consistent performances for us are in the past. However as mentioned above, he was important in us qualifying for the champions league and played his part in the Jol era as-well, that's him part of the two managers who have given us the best football in the premier league era so the majority of fans will remember Dawson for the part he played in helping us become a team that challenged for top four and qualified for the champions league.
