This sums up my feelings on Paulinho perfectly for me rwaeb. He does have his qualities, I'm not disputing that, but I don't see a place for him in the system. I couldn't see quite where he would fit in when we signed him, even at his peak, and I'm afraid I don't see it now. I have similar feelings regarding where Dembele fits but at least his skillset is somewhat unique at Spurs, so he has a place in the thinking of the management in certain situations. Whereas I can't think I would ever want Paulinho in the deeper role ahead of Sandro or Capoue, or ahead of Eriksen et. al. in any of the positions behind the striker. He would probably be a really effective player if he hit form in a system tailored to his best attributes, but I don't think that system is going to be Pochettino's at Spurs.
This Fazio rumour seems to have some legs, with Vlad heading for the door - shame, he deserves another season or two and would prefer we offload Kaboul/Daws. I'm presuming it's pronounced Fat-see-oh too, that will go down well on the terraces I do like the thought of having an Argentine contingent too, memories of the good ol days.
Chiriches may have been our second best defender after Walker last year. It's damning with faint praise, because I mean he had the fewest huge blunders and looked pretty good the most often. My only guess would be that falling down drunk episode didn't go over too well for a coach who puts a premium on fitness, especially if he feels drinking is a continuing issue with him. Too bad, because I think he's a good player. Weak in the air, though, for a good sized CB.
Surely not, it's practically a rite of passage for Spurs players to be photo'd stumbling out of night clubs. Ledley was the master of it and look where he got to.
Maybe Pochettino looks at the toleration of heavy drinking as part of the bad old days. Too bad, as he seems a reasonable fellow otherwise.
I was at that game too and i thought he looked average. Very heavy touch. And i as really excited about him at hat stage too. He was the best player against stoke, where he was admittedly excellent. He was also alright for about the first 5 games. Other than that he was very poor, and against west ham he put in the second worst display ive ever seen in a spurs shirt. Imo. Where that stoke performanc came from, i have absolutely no idea.
So,after 2 games this season, the knives are out for Paulinho,in fact,he's played once!.people are saying he was ****e last season...yes last season, competely ignoring the fact he played over 70 games with out a rest.I'm prepared to give him time,i think he will become a top M/F for us,and will fit into the way Spurs will play
I'm with tots on this. I'd like all the signings of last season to be given another year before they are so quickly written off. I do agree with Huddlefro and RWAEB's thoughts on Paulinho but I think he deserves another year to put things right.
Been some Tw*tter gossip that Hull are saying a Dawson deal might be back on. Add that to the not playing in at least one Europa game and you have a 2+2 = whatever. Same story as for Sandro and Vlad I guess.
I will question Poch's marbles if Sandro goes. How is he not seeing what everyone else sees? I'm also curious what has happened with Vlad. There must be more to it than meets the eye. If only we knew someone on the inside
Normally i agree with pretty much everything you say SD but in this case, as much as i love Sandro, i would let him go also. He's not been as good as pre-injury and he shows no signs of being able to stay injury free. I'm coming to think the same about Kaboul too tbh. A shame because they are/were 2 of my faves in the squad.
With Sandro, there is the danger he has become an MF crock. Given we expect Pochettino to be playing an intense pressing game, all squad MF players are going to be under a fair amount of physical stress so perhaps he thinks Sandro will crack. Unsure about the Vlad situation, other than the current injury and the fact his agent seems to be a gobsh*te.
I think we might disagree on this one tots! For what its worth I think he could get back to his best form and fitness for us, sure. But I do question, with the level of competition we have in midfield, whether he will be allowed 4/5 sub-par games to do so, or even more if thats what it takes. Can we afford to carry him through his re-acclimitisation? I'm not saying he didn't have any good games last season but the bad times for me far outweighed the good. Although to be fair, you could say that about a lot of players last season. I probably am being a bit harsh on Paulinho, although I still stand by him being the one I would offload first out of what you might call the 1st XI midfielders. I also echo RobSpur in so far as Paulinho could be the most frustrating player at times - one minute he's producing sensational flicks, layoffs and back heel finishes, and the next he is miscontrolling simple balls into him. I've never seen such a varied quality of first touch, from the sublime to the woeful, in such a short space of time.
I may be on the wrong track with this. But apart from injuries, I get the feeling that Sandro may have what is termed "an attitude problem"
