I dunno about bite their hand off but its 2 players we could do with, plus a bucket load of cash.
so we sell Bale and then Paulhino,won't join,and he the won an award for 3rd best player in the confed cup

How many experienced players have we actualy paid for?
Defoe
Kaboul (2nd time)
Lloris (even he is young)
Ade (second time round)
Gallas, saha and Ade (first time) were free so dont count.
We generally get young players in, and there were rumours that Commoli had free reign on young players when we had a DOF previously which was basically an investment fund parallel to his other fund - the im going to spend this on whoever the **** I like despite us really not needing them fund -
See Bent, Bentley etc
second point - could we not be spending against the potenitial sale of Bale....but next year.
IE bale is worth 85m.
If we spend 50 of that on new players to guarentee CL we will recoup that money.
If we fail to get CL next year, we have promised to sell him therefor we will get that money back
and still have players we would not have signed if we sold him this year....D Villa etc etc

No, Bale is the 'draw' to this club, those two are no compensation whatsoever imo.
And AVB heads to PSG, Hewlett Packard tears up their sponsorship deal, and fans send back their season tickets. It could be, but I hope not.

Higuain and Coentrao are both damn good players - I'll be annoyed if and when Higuain joins Arsenal as they'll have an excellent striker there.
But are they true 'marquee' names anymore? Are they players who, if another player is thinking of joining, get put in the 'pro' column as a reason for joining?
I don't think so - maybe a few years ago when they were a bit younger and hitting their stride but not now.
Why stretch it out to next year SG? All that could happen this year. Pull in a load of players with bale here and then up the price for bale to Madrid on deadline day to £100m. Zidane loses face if he doesn't get him so they might pay up

I think that is an attractive prospect to anyone that we wish to lavish 50m on.
But that has to be the right player, which is easier said than done.
Because I was thinking as a viable strategy for spending 50m in a no risk kind of way.
A CL or bust attitude, with bust being simply to fulfill our promise to GB and sell him if we fail.
It makes sense, as making a promise like this but not going hell for leather is just pointless as Arsenal, Chelsea, utd and city WILL all strengthen, so we might as well. worst comes to worst, we sell bale, maybe lose Villa but still have 30m left over for next year and have shown people we are trying to get CL.
This is important for AVB and for signings as we will have lied otherwise and everyone will be unhappy.
like i said, if there is no Bale there is no Paulinho,he won't join us if Bale goes,and probably,other top class players will look elsewhere
I would argue that Paulinho wouldn't sign if Bale were sold - he's already been quoted as saying that's a big reason for him being interested.
And I also think you'd have to question the mentality of Higuain and Coentrao - cast off by their own club and sent to a club in the Europa League - are they really going to be committed to a club they had no intention of joining?
I think we'd end up with 2 more egotistic players, to join the likes of Adebayor.
To be fair i've muddled up this team as a fusion of my first thoughts of us getting in players with the idea of selling bale next year, and us getting those two....so effectively this would be our team for 2014-2015....

So just to recap, this is with a view to us buying against getting CL this year, not getting it but still being able to attract the same offer from Madrid despite the promise to Bale (not likely) and being able to attract two of their players......

What I meant was that they need to improve quickly and if they spend big amounts of money on long term future thinking then their best players will leave in the mid term stagnation and if those Croats turn out any good they'll jump ship too.
That's the ideal situation anyway
Maybe they'll improve anyway, it's impossible to say for sure, but what I do know is that were they to be spending large amounts of their budget on thinking 4/5 years down the line then it becomes less likely they'll improve now.
Thomas Peckhart, Dorian Dervitte, John Bostock, Ben Alnwick...are there any teenage wonder-boys that we've signed that DID make it other than Bale? Oh - Lennon, I suppose. And Walker.
I love me a Croat footballer but 17m is a massive amount for a pair of 17 year-olds - absolutely massive. On the surface it looks very Commoli-ish so let's hope it's more like one of his hits than one of his many misses.
I'll be amazed if the deal isn't actually an awful lot more complicated and risk-free than the straight-up figure of 17m would suggest.
If either of them do come this year maybe we could loan them to Arsenal to get a bit of EPL experience?
