Agreed. Not very smart. If you're trying to buy a player who's been compared to your own, you don't start mouthing off about how valuable that player is. It would just immediately increase the asking price of the player you're chasing.

I thought my overdraft was running high this month
according to gossip we are hoping to off load Bentley,Gallas,ade,Benny,Livermore,Thudd,and Gomes,to free up funds for Bale.
The article's just the usual nonsense. Even if we did have to find the extra money for Bale's new wage rise, which is an extra £90k tops according to the article, then we can do that comfortably with the already outgoing Gallas and Bentley, nevermind Gomes who's also on his way out or the others listed who would all command transfer fees too.
Bentley and Gallas are out of contract at the end of the season, and given how Gomes has slipped from first-choice keeper to third-choice with Friedel and then Lloris getting ahead of him in the pecking order before we loaned him to Hoffenheim it's no surprise he'll be sold.
It has nothing to do with freeing up funds to keep Bale, not unless we're planning to increase his wages by about £250k per week- it's clearing the decks of some deadwood.
