yeah, you've got what I meant. - sorry it wasn't clearer. But yes, you're right he might be after a bigger club, hence the transfer request. But at the same time, he might also be wanting regular football and likes what AVB is building here at spurs. Alternatively, the entire situation could all be part of a behind the scenes plan that none of us know about. - This transfer request being the next step of the bale saga. Re Benny - if the relationship is dodgy and AVB has been given the go ahead for a new LB and he has Danny rose for now, why wouldn't he tell someone to stay away from training if he felt they had a negative influence, or he didn't want them around? plenty of managers freeze players out.
Fair points Roo. I think you've hit the nail on the head with Benny. If there is any truth in it, it seems likely to be because he was being disruptive.
I'm not so sure I agree. If Coentrao signs for us with no Bale deal then saying it means Bale is off is a no more credible leap to make than Bale has got an expiring tax disc so is off. They owe us for Modric, the player wants out and if anything selling him to us now shows that it has nothing to do with Bale. I think the hold up could be because Real are playing hardball simply in reaction to us doing the same with Bale, or we don't particularly want to get in talks with Real Madrid over another player as they'll keep trying to use it to talk about Bale, or simply the interest in him isn't as concrete as it's assumed to be. On that subject of us perhaps not being that interested, who's to say we aren't in deep negotiations with another club over a different left back? Cheriches came out of the blue as did Capoue so the ITKs and media aren't picking up everything the club are doing right now..
Yeah, as you say, you never know who we are after. I would not believe though that we wouldn't be interested in Coentrau, if he wanted to come and if RM were prepared to sell him at a reasonable price. The bit I have trouble believing is that he would be so desperate to come to us that he'd put in a transfer request. You never know, but it strikes me as unlikely.
I'd be surprised if other clubs weren't interested in him, but thinking about it, in terms of British clubs the only option other than us would be Man City. City have two left backs but neither of them are outstanding so could possibly be interested in bringing in a big name like Coentrao. Arsenal bought a new left-back 6 months ago and still have hopes for him, United seem to be more interested in Baines, Chelsea have Cole who would seem to have a good few years left at the top. He can't move to Barca or Atletico, the other two top teams in Spain. Italy is an option. PSG is an option. Otherwise I can't see where he'd go.
I've been reading that we're more interested in Willian than Lamela! haha just different reports everywhere! I still sense there'll be a deadline day deal from levy.
Sell Bale for £80m and Coentrao, sign Willian, Lamela, Osvaldo, Eriksen and Alderweireld with the money. Easy!
Imagine! Time is kicking on now, I can't see us wrapping up too many deals before now and the end of the window. 2 more I reckon, unless this week is ridiculously busy. Still got a few to shift yet!
I dunno rooster, capoue was effectively done more than a week ago, baldini could be a way down the road to a number of deals since then. Does anyone want willian just because it would be hilarious to steal another one from pool? Like a transfer window tradition
I would like willian because what I've seen of him, he looks like a clever player. Our interest in him has been around for a lot longer than Liverpool's, so IMO, we're not stealing one of their targets, we're just reigniting our interest in someone we've always liked. - Apparently AVB was gutted we missed him last time. I admire your optimism on transfers and hope you're right. I just can't see to much happening in 2 weeks.
Something like 42% of all Premier League summer transfers take place in the final week of the window and 37% on the final day. The odds are activity will happen.
We've got no idea how far down the line any particular deal is though in truth. A new CB and LB are priorities. If we sell Bale then we'll need probably 2 in midfield/up front.
That would be fantastic. I think he could probably play this season, but I'd settle for getting him net year. The original deal which fell through had him being loaned back to them for this season anyway.
Assou-Ekotto is definitely off. Posted this picture on Twitter with the message COYS Good luck!!: please log in to view this image It's a French channel. Was asked if he was injured and replied, "nope..." Seems strange. If he's gone and we've agreed a deal, then what's holding it up? If he hasn't then what's he doing in France?
He has been told not to bother turning up for training as well apparently - I trust we're not just freezing him out of the squad and we are actually looking for a replacement. Apparently Adebayor is training alone as well.
So the two players who held a private competition last season to see who could annoy the management the most and so incur the most club fines, are being frozen out ??? Serves them both right for acting like arrogant twats for months on end.
I mentioned this about Ade the other day and said he wouldn't be in the squad. Well, he wasn't in the squad, so it'll be interesting to find out if the "solo" training is true. Perhaps someone could confirm this for us.... S _ _ _ C _ _ Edit: ....and I was about 30seconds too slow with my post!
