@SpursOfficial: We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Toulouse for the transfer of Etienne Capoue. #THFC Finally!!!
Sky have just confirmed the signing of Capoue. This makes me very happy! Also with the transfer speculation ramping up a bit - I think we are after about 8 players - it can only signify one thing... Bale is off...
I like Townsend and i think he would be a great impact sub/rotational player but if i had to sacrifice him for those 2 i would in a heartbeat. It would be sad for Lennon, but alas him too. These 2 are also both younger than Lennon and reports suggest there has been interest from big Italian clubs for little Aaron so i think we'd be pretty confident we could do business on him before the window shuts. Personally though, i'd keep them all, they'd all get games. I get attached to players but the last few years has taught me that if a better option comes up, regardless of whether its already your strongest position, you should go for it.
That's enough signings for me. I would like this team to bear some resemblance to our teams of recent seasons.
Transfer related: If anyone doesn't have enough reason to dislike Robbie Savage then they might want to check this out: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23703265 Like the way he makes a little joke about headbutting his own keeper who was pissed off with his antics. Classy guy.
I don't think 6 players can compete for 2 positions. I think 5 is too many, and would say 4 is the limit. These "forwards" can switch sides due to the nature of how a 4-3-3 attacks the opposition. Therefore we'd be versatile enough with 4, let alone 6! None of them have the attributes to play in Soldado's role, so the striker option is out of the window too. IF the rumours are true, I can only think this marks the end of Bale, and probably Lennon or Townsend. It just wouldn't make sense to have to many player for that position, IMO.
Saw this, couldn't read to the end. Considering he was a fairly average (being polite) player i was amazed at his transfer antics. He should have been happy just being a footballer
Bale is pretty much gone next summer and i would think Townsend would be off. So that would be 5 for this season and 4 after. Perfect imo
Unfortunately, we've lost 5 players already, with more looking likely to leave. we need the squad depth. departures: Caulker, Dempsey, Hudd, Livermore, and (soon to be) Parker. Parker replaced by Capoue Dempsey replaced by Chadli Paulinho... adds something new? Caulker replaced by ??!! Hudd replaced by ??!! I know it's not good to make too many changes, but we still need a CB (unless there's plans to put Capoue there), someone who is a creative upgrade of huddlestone, and another striker if Ade goes. 3 more yet, for me.
We had a bloated central midfield before, there's no need to replace all of them. This way Carroll and Holtby might actually get some games. 3 more?! You've got transfer window fever.
Know what you mean: we could easily start the season with only five players that played regularly last year (Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Dembele and Lennon. Or maybe Sig too for six). That's a hell of a lot of change. Trouble is: Yes we've addressed the striker issue from last season. But creativity? How many times did we fail to open teams up last year? Often games were decided by Bale and it really looks like he's off. So is Paulinho, Capoue, Chadli gonna give us what Bale gave us and more? IF Bale's off then we also need some more attacking spark. And even if he stays, arguably. It really is a weird window. What the hell is it with Directors of Football? I'm sure we've always had a more scatter-gun approach to transfers whenever we've had one. And in the past that has meant massive over-stock in some areas and obvious gaps in others. Remember when we had about five right backs? Well right now I'm worrying that we seem to have a lot of big, athletic central midfielders but no really tricksy, skillful attacking midfielders. I dunno - maybe Siggy'll come good. Maybe Chadli'll give us more than I'm expecting. Maybe we'll sign another midfielder for 30m and have just three or four players from last year start against Swansea. Who the hell knows?
Is that the same as he has agreed terms and signed the contract? Reaching agreement with Toulouse I thought happened last week?
Yeah maybe you're right, but IMO, despite us still having "numbers", we're still missing certain components. BTW, Tom Carroll could be going out on loan, so that's another man we could be down. I don't think it's T'fer window fever mate. We cannot go into a season with 3CB's. If Ade goes, we can't just have 2 strikers. - that caused us all sorts of problems last season. Maybe the creative element is a bit greedy, as we have Holtby and Sig, and perhaps the club won't do anything about bringing in another. But I'd say 2 more signings are a necessity.
AVB showed last season he won't just chuck the newbs in at the deep end. They'll be introduced slowly up til maybe november unless there is no choice. So i wouldn't be suprised if our squad is bloated at the end of the window and a few leave in jan and next summer
I'm looking at the CURRENT squad. By all means if players leave we should replace them, but I'm not going to listen to speculation about Bale, Ade, Carroll leaving until they actually leave
It's a long season and we are in Europe. Parker, Thud and Livermore never cut it for me. Dembele has a history of hip inuries and Sandro is just returning. God forbid any further injuries to our midfield and any possible suspensions we require the depth from our signings. Hopefully we are learnt from the mistakes under 'arry whereby if you play your best squad all season they tire out and you fade away. We need to rotate and we did not have the personel to do that before. We are slowly making a squad whereby, unlike last season you gasp at the lack of talent on the bench. We still miss two players who can unlock a defence. Lennon, been at Spurs a While, this season is now or never really. If he doesn't start to produce I doubt he ever will. Siggy, shows promise but still makes a lot of wrong decisions and holds onto the ball too long. I still think we need another striker and another winger. If Bale stays he will play behind Soldado.
You want the creative bit but you think Lamela is too much on a position that we don't need. You've definitely got some sort of fever
I think I understand the guy now, a very large chip on his shoulder after being rejected by Man U and thought he was better than any of the teams that he played for. He's done very well though for an average footballer who is full of ****. If he treats his current paymasters the same way as he treated the owners/managers/fans of the clubs that he played for he will eventually get his come-uppance.
And on the 3 centre-backs. Arsenal only have Mertesacker, Koscielny and Vermaelen Chelsea only have Luiz, Cahill and Terry City only have Kompany, Nastasic and Lescott. 3 proper centre backs is enough, with a player like Capoue to fill in when necessary.
