"According to that interview with hazard he'd agreed to come to us for a fee and then we had that collapse! And this is what I'm talking about with fees and faffing about!"

So what you are saying is the finances to pay the Hazard transfer and wages vanished
once our CL fate was sealed with the final third collapse last season ??

    well said. <ok>

it's not about the fact that "Dotmund have come along so we don't stand a chance"... why haven't we made our interest in him more serious much sooner?! His name was mentioned last summer. Why didn't we do something in Jan to get him this summer, based on the season he is having and the fact that Verts has been such a success?!
    It's infuriating.

I think Benteke will be top class. If we are quoted 20 mill, we should go for it. He's got so much going for him.

But the likes of Ince, Mcmanaman etc are all just "hopefuls". - Players that are typical signings for us that we pray will work and not flop. There's been so many like this over the years.
They don't give us anything better than we've already got. Yes they give us depth, but we've got loads of players who are good at certain things, but no one who's top quality (other than Dembele). We just seem to add more volume but not quality. - Why waste the money on those 2 when we have Townsend coming back?

WE NEED TO COMPETE WITH OUR RIVALS! we need some of the top up and coming talent from around the world which has already played at a decent level. Not a championship player and a premier league relegation threatened player!

I have always believed the guy was whoring himself out.
And no CL showed his true colours.

Whether I think Lloris and Verty have come to Spurs for "shop window"
purposes or not, at least I know they have done so on lower wages than
    they could probably get elsewhere.

McCarthy as a target has also been mooted on Spurs Community (as has Anderson from the red side of Manc - shudder....)

I know nothing about him at all. but 1 goal in 3 at the age of 19 isn't bad at all. He's a "forward", so that might mean that he's not a central striker either.

Thought I would log in and not be a lurker for the season.

I have the same persumption going into the summer as I always have that we will not sign anyone of worth until the season begins and the transfer window draws to a close. However, as the season draws to a close as we are discussing transfers I will throw my two cents in and tell you the players I hope get sold this upcoming transfer window to fund new blood.

    Out:
Dawson: Nice guy, terrible player. My heart wants to like him. My misses knows Dawson very well not for a good reason because every game on multiple occasions I scream at the TV for AVB to sub him normally after the first 5 minutes when he thinks he can pass the ball more than 10 yards.

Livermore & Huddlestone - both average at best.

Bentley & Gomes: Surplus to requirements .

BAE - Used to back him up until the cows came home. AVB doesn't appear to like him and his attitude has changed a lot on the pitch.

    With Kaboul and Sandro hopefully we have two new signings right there. Carroll needs to be given more game time especially ahead of Livermore and Hudd. I would like to see us sign Benteke. I think we need the following;

    Left back
    Attacking mid,
    Striker
    Left or right winger

With the top 3 teams all having new managers I feel we need to make a statement of intent early in the transfer window and hit the new season with a bang. If we do not take full advantage of the transition period of the top 3 teams we will find ourselves scrapping for 4th again next year.

You can never have too few Croatians in the Spurs squad. :)

    Great point.
We get crippled at the beginning of each season because of our transfer dealings. The difference next season is we (and Arsenal presumably) are the "stable" clubs (LOL, Spurs stable, hahahahahahaha) and as such we should not just be "making do" til our squad is finalised but we should be matching or bettering the clubs in transition because as sure as day follows night they will come good eventually if they start a bit wobbly

I'd love see a wild card move for Jackson Martinez at Porto. Seems a very good finisher. Plus, the last Columbian striker that left Porto has done rather well <whistle>

To be honest mate I've not seen his name mentioned with any club to be fair. He only joined Porto this season but with 25 goals in 27 games (Wiki), I'm sure his name will come up a lot in the coming weeks. Hopefully any bigger clubs will look elsewhere :D

Can't we just nick Porto's South American scout/s?

I think we probably would if it would help - British clubs are stymied by our stricter immigration laws. Unlike Porto we can't just snap up any 17 year old for a couple of quid and a packet of fruit pastilles in the hope that they will become good one day.
