Hang on, the deadline isn't for another six weeks, yet we're signing players? I think I need a lie down...

Decided to update the OP anyway - if it's €7m then that's £6m anyway so me putting £7m isn't too far off.

This is excellent news about Chadli. If the rumours of something around £7 million are true then we've snapped up a decent young player for a very decent price. Reminds me of the Kranjcar transfer in a way, although for me (in terms of the quality of the player) that was even better value for money.

Good to see us conducting business BEFORE the start of the season as well :)

One slight problem with signing Chadli - the tabloid scumbags will presume this is a sign that Bale is off, and spend a couple of days reporting this...

There's already twitter posts about it.

E.g. "Chadli in, Bale out - hope so" #MUFC #THFC

I'm still waiting for the story where they say spurs are desperate for a striker while in the same article discussing the departure of our best forward. They're all ****ing mental

Twitter claiming we're about to bid £18m for Soldado.

In terms of an amount, it's believable - we're not going to trigger his release clause of £25m unless we get super desperate.

The bid won't be accepted - Valencia will just hold out for the release clause amount.

I still don't think we'd bid £18m for a 28 yr old, with an ever reducing sell on fee though.

Chadli is a superb signing. Gunna stick my head out and say, having seen alot of Dutch games this year, that Chadli will be one of our bes players this year. Very danger and exciting player and a very good replacement for Lennon (even though I think Lennon is a very good player).

I don't know how this story is being taken so seriously. I just can't see levy paying £18m for a 28 year old.

But then again, maybe this time he feels that we don't have much of a choice, as every other striker is being snapped up.

It just doesn't seem like a "spurs" signing.

If the papers' guess is that we're gonna spend upwards of 18m on a 28 year-old unproven in the Prem I reckon they have no idea who we're after. My money's more likely to be be on someone under 25 who'll cost about 10m who I've never heard of and the paper's haven't thought of yet. That or a cheap(ish) veteran (Saha-type, or could have been Villa). Or no-one.

So that's my bet pretty well spread!

Basically if Baldini has a list of strikers in mind I bet his list is more intelligently-reasoned and well-informed than any journalist's.

I think PNP might have got it spot on when he mentioned baldini's contacts/possible options in Italy.
That sort of transfer seems far more likely now.

Is he a right winger?,a lot of Spurs fan think he is going to replace Bale on the wing, and Bale move to the centre

Apparently the mousers are going to outbid us for Soldado...

Hardly surprising - its the only way they can lure players these days.

One would assume if they get Soldado, Suarez is off as they already have Sturridge as well.

    He's right footed...

I've seen him play left wing, right wing and has also played as a striker when Twente went a goal or 2 behind in later stages of games.

He was most commonly used at left wing cutting inside but like I say, right footed and has played on the right before.

I think he'll take Bale's place on the left wing and Bale will be given a proper free role behind the striker.

    Lennon ------------- Chadli
    -----------Bale------------
    --------Adebayor----------

What I meant with regards to Lennon was that if we decide to play Bale left wing rather than centrally he'd move across rather than dropping to the bench, as he's a better player than lennon (END PRODUCT!!) from what Ive seen in last couple seasons.

With that formation, who do you drop from midfield, Paulinho, Dembele or Sandro? I think it's nailed on we play 4-3-3 this year, so Bale left Ade/Defoe centre Chadli/Lennon right, surely?

I agree with you I'd rather see 4-3-3 with Bale left but AVB seemed keen on playing Bale in the middle last year and I think he will again and rotate Paulinho / Demebele and use whoever is in form. If it was my choice itd be... Sandro - Paul - Dembe then Bale and Lennon wings with Ade in centre but as I said before I think Bale is gunna be used through the middle.

I'm also not sure if it'd work playing 4-3-3 with Bale running all over the pitch - as good as he is that is going to completely mess up and tactics etc if he's ditching the left wing and switching into the middle when we already have 3 centre midfielders there.

Who knows! I just have a feeling Chadli has been signed for left wing so that we can play Bale through the middle or heaven forbid, as I dont want to see it, as a striker.

That is sort of how he played at Porto. Hulk was a "winger" but basically came inside a lot. One of the 3 mids then shifted out when Hulk wasn't there. On the other side he played a more orthodox winger, i forget who it was.
I think our squad is beginning to very closely resemble what he had at Porto in terms of formation.
