It seems that all of the Premier League clubs are snapping up extra midfielders but there seems to be a shortage of good strikers. At Southampton we have Lambert and then loads of midfielders and we seem to want more. Could it be teams are going for Barcelona tactics? I mean I thin you have signed a good player but obviously it is a natural goalscorer that you crave.
I don't think there's a shortage of good strikers I just think the good ones are going for more and more. I don't ever really think of Cavani or Falcao etc. as strikers/players even - they're out of our reach so, in transfer terms, they don't exist. That leaves you with the cheaper players - the Villa's, the Gomez's, hell even the Altidore's - the names who maybe were once marquee and are slightly over the hill or have been pushed down the pecking order or young guns with potential. These are the players that we get linked with and it's here that I agree with your statement of there not being many good strikers.
There are strikers who are the focal point of their team's attack and get goals because of it - Lukaku, Michu, Lambert, Holt - and there are strikers who are clinical and are able to take the game changing (and even season changing) half chance like RvP, Aguero, Suarez. Most of the latter group play for teams where other players chip in with their fair share of goals. Their value is their deadliness under pressure. Where do you find a striker like this without breaking the bank? It's all very well looking at goalscoring stats, but that's not necessarily an indicator. Spurs now have such a player (although not strictly a striker) in Bale - as was shown this last season in a number of games. Spurs are unlikely to find another. Spurs need an on form Adebayor or similar player who can run the channels, hold the ball up, occupy defenders and chip in with a reasonable haul of goal - 10 to 12? A 30 goal striker is a dream.
Very good points Luke. I agree, we do need that striker you mention, but someone who's better that adebayor. He's proven he's not reliable enough. Berbatov would probably be very good at this. He's a very intelligent footballer.
Agree with LDL, but I'd want them to chip in with 15-20 goals not 10-12. Dempsey got 10 last year so I don't think it's too much to ask. Ade season before last again would be great
I still think you'd be mad not to go for Ba. He's not wanted at Chelsea and is better than anything you've got. You could probably get him for around £5m - £8m
Read somewhere that Bayern want 20mil euros for Gomez- Fiorentina offered 15 and got knocked back. So unless Levy wants to stump up 17 mil or so we won't get him.
You are correct - how silly of me. They would obviously want cash and a player with a bit more experience in big boys Europe
I'd stay quiet till the end of the summer - Our squad is looking a hell of a lot stronger than yours and so far none of your signings have come off apart from another cheap young Frenchy. Seems to me like Higuain is stalling to see if anyone else comes in for him rather than going to you guys. Spurs / Arsenal Team: Lloris Walker - Kaboul - Vertonghen - Gibbs Paulinho - Sandro - Cazorla Lennon - Giroud - Bale Cant be much arguing with that apart from maybe Walcott for Lennon but Lennon is much more intelligent and more consistent.
Nacer chadli was at our training facilities earlier this week apparently. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nacer_Chadli Perhaps cove can cast his opinion?
Can't find anything here, no rumours. And he is the Dembelé type but with a small physique and a right foot.
A reliable source on twitter confirmed this. Cheers cove Apparently he's pacey and more like a winger?
