I like odemwingie, he's no spring chicken though. No one seems to be talking about Guiseppe Rossi anymore, when last year he was one of our top january targets for 30of our millions!

I'd take anyone over Pav at the moment, even someone like Ashley Walters could do a job as a squad player, but idealy we would sign Ade long term. he's been quality for us.

I think this is why Rossi has fallen out of our wishlist - http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/s...l's-giuseppe-rossi-out-for-six-months?cc=5739

I wouldn't want Tottenham going anywhere near Rossi this window whilst he's still got this nasty injury.

Loic Remy seems to be our best bet at the moment - not sure whether he qualifies as a 'marquee' signing though - he didn't do much to impress me in the Arsenal-Marseille games I watched in the CL.

The Fail are reporting that we've made a bid for Samba.
    £7.5m.
Get him in and take Hoilett off them, too.

You can guarantee he'll forget how the second he steps on the pitch for us.

Samba has said he wants away from Blackburn, to 'a more ambitious club' - not necessarily in France - http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11676/7424702/Samba-seeking-Rovers-exit

"We shall see if the interest is confirmed or not (from PSG), but it would be good for me to return home.

"The most important thing is to find an ambitious club. I would love to experience something different."

If Spurs don't put in a serious bid now, someone else will snatch him up. (I'm aware that the Mail claims we've made a £7.5m bid but it hasn't been confirmed) - Samba is only 27 and could well be a long term replacement for King perhaps.

Assuming we get Samba, who gets dropped? Younes is undroppable and Dawson is captain. Do we move Younes into the holding midfielder role temporarily? I can't imagine Samba will want to sit on the subs bench and that's not even taking into account King returning at some point. I don't see Gallas being at Spurs next season as i think he'll be after one last big payday in the US or China so no problem him being a bit-part player from now on.

This whole CB thing is a tricky one. As said earlier - if Samba comes who gets dropped? A couple of months ago, after seeing makeshift defences in every (?) EL game I thought we needed another.

But even with Gallas and King out we still have Dawson and Kaboul. Bassong can't get a game.

On the other hand one injury to either Dawson or Kaboul and an out-of-form Bassong is in the team with back-up of Livermore or Corluka. Much as I'm beginning to love Livermore I'd not want him to be at CB if we're away to City etc.

If we only sign one player this window I'd want it to be a striker rather than a CB, though.

Perhaps if we sign Samba or whoever then Bassong will be allowed to leave. Can't argue with that.

I feel a little sorry for Bassong. A couple of seasons ago when we came 4th he was immense. Then we got Gallas in and suddenly Bassong isn't getting game time meaning he has lost his reading, positioning, etc

Yep LP, the striker has to be priority, but if we could 'swap' Samba for Seb and not lose too much cash, could be a good deal.

Striker all day for that push.

Drogba would have put one of those chances away last night. Ade is great at what he does and has been huge for us but look what Chelsea did last year when they already had a strong forward line but needed that little push in January- they went and spent ( I know retroactively it was a waste but...) £50 mil on a top striker. I do still rate Torres and he has just been a little unlucky and there is massive pressure on him. I would definitely take him for £20mil.

Anyway my point is we have to spend big on a top top striker and then I believe we can win the title.

My choice might be Lleandro although the danger there is that he is unproven at premier league level.
