Arsenal have also announced a £150m deal with Puma. That isn't going to help us overtake them. Anyone know how that compares to other deals - including our own? Seems an awful lot of money for kit?
"Realism says that we will not be able to maintain top 4." Squad strength seems to be the determinant. In 2010-11 the PL campaign just seemed to grind inexorably to a halt with the CL ongoing and the injuries stacking up. That is why the on-paper summer dealings made me so happy (strengthening across the squad in several areas) . "Liverpool have the will to keep their best player." One season is easy. We know this from Modric. We'll see what happens with Suarez this summer if they have no CL yet again.
I'm not sure I'm disagreeing if I say we need to keep clambering up the ladder, avoiding mis-steps for the most part, making good to very good decisions for the most part, and getting a little luck when we need it on a semi-steady basis. It's that last part that makes me think we'll need a miracle. But the thing that would help most, other than being bought by a zillionaire, is to get and keep a brilliant manager. We can probably get one. Keeping him, on the other hand... Another thing which would help a lot is to find a marketing genius. I think Spurs do a good job marketing. But doing a great job could open all kinds of possibilities.
a bigger stadium would also help, the income from a bigger crowd would help us afford the "big" name players
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ear-as-replacement-kit-supplier-for-Nike.html If we had proven regular CL coverage we could charge more than 10m/yr . Its a very good deal for them, and Nike must be utterly mad putting that mind boggling figure into United at this moment in time.
That's a superb deal for them lot. That deal alone can pay for a good few transfers/ one big transfer each year should they feel the need to invest it.
Talk of Guarin is picking up pace with some media outlets. I think he's a very, very good player but really don't see how we can accommodate him into the side. He'd come in as probably the best CM passer of a ball, has a great shot on him too but competing with Paulinho, Dembele and Sandro is a tough ask for most CM's on the planet. If Capoue does indeed go which looks likely I can understand Tim/ Levy feeling the need to replace him (plus Sandro seems a bit prone to injury at the moment) but I'd have thought they'd gone for someone who'll be content with playing a back up role. Guarin's a player that'd likely expect a starting spot each week. Be interesting to see if it develops over the final few days. Apparently (think someone may have said this already) but a deal for Berbatov is supposedly down to us. Everything is good to go, just basically needs the green light from our end if we wish to conclude it.
Didn't the guy at Nike who negotiated the United deal get sacked? Or was that a guy from Chevrolet? Huge deal for the scum. Kind of makes sense for Puma I guess, they really go for it in the African market and Arsenal have picked up a lot of African players along the way which has made them popular there.
One out. Adam Smith has joined Bournemouth on a permanent deal after about a million loans. Fair enough. No fee announced.
So as predicted at the start of the window we aren't signing anyone, no strikers, no money to be spent. Leaving a sad face on the Twitter people "ITK". or I could be setting myself up here as still a little time left but I'll take the risk!
The Chevy exec.... http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/general-motors-exec-who-agreed-1218826#.UufQ-xBFDIU .....he didn't move to Nike did he?
Our best friends in Spain - Marca - have said we've made a bid for Iker Muniain of Bilbao, €22m. Though they reckon Bilbao will not sell for anything less than his buyout clause, which is €30m+.
22million euros would be a steal, couldn't see it for anything less than his buy-out clause. And even then expect Chelsea to swoop in
You've never heard of Muniain?! he was being tarted around big time in the summer. good player though
