Also am I right in thinking that Sherwood has said that BAE is staying at QPR for the rest of his allotted time? I think this was insinuated or indeed confirmed when we stopped them playing Carroll in the Cup against Everton. Therefore any discussions about him coming back this month are academic. Whether he can return in the summer and play a role I guess depends on the attitudes and expectations of the player and the club upon his return.
If he comes back in the summer then like with Adebayor, as long as he performs and respects the manager then fans will move on. I certainty won't be smashing tea cups if I hear Ekotto has returned yet SC mentioned to me Sherwood sent scouts to see Glasgow Rangers in action, to scout their left back Lee Wallace so as that's the case and Sherwood is instructing scouts to watch left backs then surely that means unless we find no-one, Ekottos days are numbered.
Yeah actually I saw that post from Spurcat too and you'd assume that that would mean that BAE is on the way in the summer. Don't know much about this Wallace guy but a quick glance at his Wiki doesn't suggest anything too outstanding. Anyone know anything about him to suggest that he'd be more than backup or (competition at best) for Rose if he came in?
its tricky to say as hes playing in the lower tier of Scotland due to Glasgow Rangers and their financial trouble, so he hasn't been tested at a stage on the same level as the premier league. If you ask about, people will tell you hes quick, agile, great athlete and has good vision but you remember Hutton? he was viewed as much the same so if Sherwood is scouting him it must be because him or one of his scouts know of his reputation.
I guess I would say that if he's still at Rangers outside the top tier of Scottish football at the age of 26, then he might not be entirely what we're looking for. Depends on price I guess. But I'm not a scout, I've never even heard of him let alone seem him play enough to pass comment so what do I know really eh?
Rangers still sign decent players as they get big home crowds and are still a huge club and they can't turn down realistic bids for players so if he is an option then he won't be expensive. But trust me in Scotland Samaras is viewed as a genius! Even if you watch the league every week, you won't know if a player is good enough to play elsewhere so good luck to the scout as he has to weigh up the positives of the player against the negative of the league he's performing in!
A scout must get a sinking feeling in his stomach when he hear's from his chief, "We want you to go to Scotland to watch a defender".
No he hasn't - that's total bullshit. This reminds me of all those fans going on about how Harry insulted the Spurs fans when he just didn't. Mind you, when you criticise "idiots" I guess it's not unsurprising that a load of, er, people get insulted. Some people prefer amateur dramatics and soap operas to facts and football.
Surely the same with any players in minor foreign leagues, even a reputable league like the Dutch league can massively exaggerate a player's ability (Gomes, Alfonso Alves etc.). You'd think that true quality is pretty obvious though to an experienced scout, hence why signing players like Modric and Chiriches isn't seen as a risk.
Yeah sure that comes down to judgement but even the most experienced scout Is going to have doubts or call it wrong at times. And as Notso jests, being sent to Scotland to watch a defender will leave even the best scout wishing he was assigned elsewhere!
Refusing more than once to meet the team coach in Enfield, to travel to the pre-match overnight hotel in Canary Wharf, which is walking distance from Benny's home. Instead, waited in reception in the Hotel for the rest to arrive.
Jesus! You're making me out to be some kind of drama-queen, which I most certainly am not! Okay, darling?
All joking aside, bringing Benny back into the fold will do more harm than good, that's all I am saying. If he had done nothing wrong, why has a player of his undoubted abilities been exiled to QPR? Bringing someone who has so obviously been as disruptive as he has been - and some of the evidence for that has been played out in the media - would send completely the wrong message to the players. Sherwood has enough troubles on his plate trying to get his current squad to gel without having to worry about the antics and slack attitude of someone like Benny. I don't care how good a player he is - and he wasn't exactly that great, in the weeks before his exile, let's be honest - the discipline in the squad is of far greater importance than the wounded feelings of any individual player. Let's stick with Rose and Fryers and give them the time to develop into the players that some of us believe they are capable of becoming.
If Ekotto was at the club and Sherwood asked him to travel to Enfield to travel to Canary Wharf, with the team, would he? Because if he reacted in the same way as he did with Avb, then he would be dropped. This is why HIAG does have a point (amid his Wummery) as players have to understand when the manager gives them an order, they nod their head and follow that order. They can moan in private or discuss the trivial issue with their mates but discipline is important in creating good team spirit as once players start questioning a manager it makes the manager look weak for backing down so they are left with no real option but to exclude the player.
HIAG also has a good point that the best way to turn Rose and Fryers into brilliant left backs is to actually play them in the team, not by buying some journeyman. Same argument for Kane versus almost any name I've seen mentioned as a Defoe replacement.
I don't think that anyone's suggesting buying some random Journeyman, but Rose isn't a natural left-back and could do with having someone to learn from, whilst Fryers could benefit from actually playing. The same would apply to Kane, as he's not getting any games and seems hurried and under a lot of pressure when he's sparingly used from the bench.
We had as many UEFA/domestic cup games in addition to the PL fixtures as possible in the first half of the season, to try and advance the likes of Fryers, Kane etc That it hasn't worked out well on that front is another story.
Harry Kane's been on the fringes for a while now and I've never seen him make any real impact at premier league level. I know he had a decent game in the cup but isn't he an option more by elimination, rather then being worthy of a chance? As it's only due to a lack of strikers being purchased that Kane us even being discussed? Or have I and others missed something in Kane that makes him an actual contender for a starting place?
