SC reported that Sherwood is scouting a left full back so that tells me Ekotto has no future and probably expect QPR to sign him once promoted.
I just hope he gets one...fair enough if sherwiid dont want bae back at spurs but we need a replacement as soon as and if one aint signed sherwood will be the one to lose his job when it all goes tits up like it invariably did under avb
Me, I'm glad that Benny has been given the boot permanently. It would send out all kinds of wrong messages for that idiot to be brought back into the fold. He's ripped the piss out of the club and the fans, and, for me, there can be no way back for him, no matter how much we might need his services. The club, and the pride I expect our players to have for it, are far, far bigger than any player, and Benny is far from being he biggest player we've had at our beloved club, in any event.
Hotlby and Capoue fell foul of Sherwood's new disciplinary measures, didn't they? I'm sure that won't last forever.
Nice in a way to hear that about Lamela, of course we'd all have loved him to come in and immediately settle etc. but that doesn't always happen does it. And the number of young professionals who must play through injuries at the start of their careers only for it to cause them problems later on must be quite considerable, so its good to see the staff err on the side of caution in this case. To write him off at this stage, especially if he's half fit, would be grossly unfair to such a promising young footballer. On Benny, I agree with what others have said. He's a good LB, sometimes a very good one, and in many ways his attitude and honesty about football is quite refreshing. But at the same time if he is lapsing into indiscipline that can't be tolerated. If he returns from QPR in the summer a changed man then he might have a future but then again I think he'll be 30 by the time he returns so it might be time to sell him on.
Why exaggerate rumours about our own players?? Benny fell out with AVB allegedly over the 'Enfield team bus' saga and there was clearly then a breakdown in the relationship with that manager/coach. Not sure how the timing of this works with the players extended injury recovery, but he was out for the best part of 3/4 months, returning only at the FAC game against Coventry. My own memory suggests that he was already being sidelined in the summer that AVB took over. Bottom line is that BAE has never 'ripped the piss' out of the fans - in fact I cannot think of a player in recent memory that has so publicly aligned himself to the club and the local community. What should we do this transfer window? We need a decent LB. (Rose clearly cannot cope - certainly not with Eriksen ahead of him) We have a very good, often excellent, LB on the books kicking his heels in the Championship. The NY window is notoriously difficult to find successful and economically viable imports. Errrr..... Recall the guy who has surely paid his dues for any misdemeanours....... If only for the commercial sense that it makes. 3 weeks ago half the posters on here would not have welcomed Ade back, but 21 days, 3 goals and a show of effort and the 'naysayers' are again relatively silent. So why continue to exile Benny?
I don't know what kind of contrition those two players have shown, and to what extent they each have gone out of their way to show the boss that they intend to buckle down. If have apologised and if they have shown an intent to knuckle down, then they'll deserve a second chance. If they do neither of those and, instead, continue to take the piss, they should face the same consequences as Benny. It's all very simple to me.
Er... (1) General lack of ill-discipline and contempt for management (2) Bad time-keeping (3) Open disrespect towards the club (4) Inviting an anti-semitic French comedian to the ground, and then boasting about it on twitter afterwards Care to take your pick?
How do you know any of that stuff is true (apart from 4, and that's probably more complicated). And lacking ill discipline is a good thing. What is your evidence for (3) - I don't know many loaned players who support the team as much as he does?
Never let the facts get in the way of your opinions eh, HIAG? 1 and 2 have been dealt with by the club already - hence the loan to QPR 3 - Not sure what 'disrespect' you are alluding to: please be more specific 4 He actually posted a Tweet to Anelka commenting on the alleged 'Quenelle' action that he made. Haven't seen anything about inviting this French comedian to the Lane. Out of interest, Samir Nasri went so far as posting a picture of himself doing the quenelle. Haven't seen him being disciplined by Citeh...... Not saying that any comment wasn't ill advised - but surely not a hanging offence.
His two tweets on Dec 15 and 16 were pretty disgraceful. He still maintains that the famous photo of him and Ade was before kick off. Okay, so let's give him the benefit of the doubt but the tweet posted shortly after AVBs sacking was just childish! "What a good monday! Massage bike gym! And now on my way bk with this song in my car i love it http://youtu.be/y6Sxv-sUYtM hv a good monday too LOL" Whether he liked or disliked AVB, you don't start posting snidey tweets to celebrate someone losing their job. I think Benny is a great left back but I fear any return would unsettle the squad morale and we could be in a worst position with him around again. Shame.
He tweets all the time - in my opinion too much - but all his tweets are in this vein and AVB wasn't sacked on all those days!! Dig deep enough into anyone's comms and statements and you will find something to attack I am sure. That includes most of us......
It was covered on radio, which is where I heard it. The report said that he had his knuckles rapped by the club for it, and that he immediately removed the tweet he had made. I started a thread about it, at the time, which our mods removed for fear of causing a debate about it.
My error! I meant to write "lack of discipline." I know what we all know from the media. The sour comments about AVB. The tweets glorifying in defeats for the club. The willful ignoring of management requests. Etc.
I don't think Benny has ever intentionally mugged Spurs/ Spurs fans off with his tweets, half of the time you can barely understand his actual intent of his tweets as his written English is shocking (his verbal is still debatable lol). It's no secret he disliked AVB but then neither did I so I side with him on that. Benny said in an interview last season or the season before that he'd like to finish his career with us, I'd love for that to happen as I think he's a great LB. Rose may have the potential to be better but as of right now, he's definitely not on the same level as Ekotto, we've seen in the past few weeks how poor positionally he can be at times, not to mention the poor mistake at the Emirates.
His tweets about Ade and rubbishing AVB in the process were childish in the extreme but thats probably the reflection of the modern footballer, even one who claims to be/is a bit different. In my opinion the Liverpool picture was a big unfortunate misunderstanding, his most recent tweet (at the time I'm writing) appears to show that the picture was posted when the score was not 5-0. His disciplinary problems that O.S has made us aware of (the hotel incident etc.) don't reflect too well on him for sure though. Rules are rules, no matter how inconvenient they are to follow, and if you want to dispute them surely the way to do it is in a private and calm manner, one-on-one with the coach rather than a public confrontation, which forces a harsh reaction to show who is really in charge. I'm not saying this was just one-way antagonism and perhaps we'll never know, but his reaction to the rules is surely a sign of someone who is willing to make trouble if things aren't going their way. As a player he still has something to offer but I don't see LB as a priority to improve by bringing him back/selling on BAE to raise funds if he is willing to sit on the bench. Rose has been getting a lot of stick for his errors (notably in the FA Cup) but he's a young player and everyone makes mistakes when they try the high risk/high reward stuff he was at that moment in time. Lloris plays in a risky way, 9/10 times it comes off and saves us a goal. You'd hope that Rose's judgement and execution would improve over time. Who are we going to get at a reasonable price who could oust Rose anyway? Especially when a striker to ease the pressure on our soon to be 2 senior strikers would be a wiser investment at this time, in my opinion.
All well and good, but we need a fully functioning LB between now and the end of the season and Rose certainly isn't that. He may well improve sufficiently for next season, although he has been around long enough by now surely for his 'potential' to become reality. In the absence of anyone suggesting that Fryers - or God-forbid, Naughton - is ready to fill the role, then surely the simplest answer is to recall a proven Intenational LB?
The difference with Adebayor was his ability was never questioned and as fans we have every right to show disdain when they are showing a clear lack of respect to the club and fans, which Adebayor was doing. Now he's back to being in favour, it's his job to perform and do what he is paid to do which Is turn up for training on time and show passion and dedication to the shirt when picked. There are no grudges held so as he's performing and not pissing about then you move on but let's be clear, I still think he was mugging the fans off and being a crap pro, nothings changed what he done in the past. As for Benny, his ability has always been questioned and anyone who says different is clearly solely remembering him for his good displays and ignoring the matches where he would switch off or make a stupid mistake. And the timing of some of his twitter posts are bordering on childish and immaturity, not an hanging offence and we know Benny is 'different' but you can understand why not everyone tolerates his ways and clearly Sherwood isn't interested. Benny and Adebayor have both at various times been good performers, especially in Redknapps last season but as Pros, combined, they need a manager to control them like Redknapp who knew how to manage them. Otherwise they take the piss as we saw last season and for that I don't have any sympathy if Benny doesn't feature again.
It looks like the pair of them together has been the trouble when managed by AVB. And as Adebayor is currently performing somewhat, BAE has the short straw this time (regardless of the LB situation) .
It will send out completely the wrong message. Yes, you might solve one problem (but, then again, you might not), only to create a whole load more. Any army commander will tell you, that without discipline there is no army.
