Just seen this in a web site called "sillyseason.com"- says it all really Arsenal and Liverpool to be snubbed by Colombian star! Jackson Martinez favours White Hart Lane Arsenal look set to be snubbed by Colombian international, Jackson Martinez. The 28-year-old Porto striker is said to prefer a move to White Hart Lane instead, citing competition for places at the Emirates as a leading factor. Liverpool are also interested in the forward, but the white side of North London looks like the 6-footer's destination of choice. Martinez is happy to stay at Porto until the summer, but a £27.5million buy-out clause is attracting interest from clubs in need of added fire-power. Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, could well be looking to offload Emanual Adebayor and Roberto Saldodo to fund the move in a few months time, and the Colombian striker, who has hit 81 goals in 119 appearances for Porto could fit in very well at the Lane. In 2014, Martinez was named in Colombia's 23-man squad for the FIFA World Cup. After a substitute appearance in the team's opening match win over Greece, Martinez was selected to start in the final group game against Japan, scoring twice in a 4–1 win. Spurs to upset Arsenal? Now there's a thing. Written by Michael Horne Anyone know who he is (the journo not the player) and does he have any credence?
Hold on...a striker in his late 20's from the Iberian pensinsula, asking price £20mil+. It's all starting to sound scarily familiar!...
I liked the way they called Soldado Saldodo. According to the bits of ITK I've read, Lennon is off this week. Kaboul and Ade will be off providing someone offers what we and the players want. Apparently there's interest in Paulinho and Chiriches too. Not much on the In list though unfortunately.
Our workload just got lighter so we could lose a few in jan for decent/inflated jan prices and replace in summer.
This bloke still looks pretty useful. Not sure if he's available though... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...rageous-chip-in-fernando-ricksen-tribute-game
* We need cover up front, as Soldado is ineffective and Adebayor isn't even sufficient cover for the ballboys at this point * We can add HG players to our squad, but we need to sell to add any non-HG players * Seven goals in nineteen games is a good return, which is 1/3 of Burnley's league goals this season Adding some depth up front is not a bad thing, and as it;s unlikely we'll shift Adebayor anytime soon our hands are tied with who can be brought in.
Who would you be interested in TMT? Someone who is cheap (this is Spurs after all), English (for the HG issue) and who is banging them in? I'm not sure there's anyone out there who fits that bill at the moment. So, unless we're prepared to spend big, or sell our foreign players for not enough then I think we're out of options (I've not said Ings is that option though ) Me personally - I'd give Adebayor the money for the rest of his contract and, once he's gone, get a new striker in. Maybe I'd feel differently if this was my money...
Berahino ticks the boxes of being a striker, English and scoring - but with two years on his contract, plus the inflation that comes from him being English and the January window ratcheting up prices he'll be £15m+ even though his scoring form is equal to Ings' this season
I'd take Berahino if we could get him for 15 (especially if we could get him in the next 4 1/2 days or so). I would guess we can't, though. Berahino would suit the team we seem to be trying to build.
Anyone we bring in is in competition for Kane or Eriksen right? Can we improve on what we have with a player who doesn't mind being 2nd in the pecking order?
We're getting into bonkers speculation now, since the latest one I've heard is cash + Chiriches for Destro. Now let's look at that for a second... PROS * More options up front * Destro looks like genuine quality * Shoves Adebayor further towards the door * Gets around the issue with too many non-HG players in the squad * Potentially means Dier gets more games CONS * Leaves us lighter in defence * Potentially means Kaboul gets more opportunities to look a shadow of his former self * Having overpaid for Lamela, it's probable that Roma will expect us to do so for Destro * It is theoretically impossible for Roma to be that stupid...but then again, Maicon is in their squad * Did I mention that this sounds remarkably unfeasible? There's also one of those stories with no sources or quotes saying Konoplyanka wants to see out his contract. May as well get a pre-contract deal sorted instead, eh?
Coming on the heels of last window's rumors about Memphis Depay, it may mean that in the future, we will fail to sign only players named after cities in the southeastern US.
Not sure I'd agree with that. A 1 in 3 strike rate for club (more impressive by the fact it's playing for Burnley, with all respect to them), 4 in 7 for England U-21's, recently linked with Chelsea and Man City as well as us and others (think I read Inter Milan at one point). I think he'd be a good addition, especially with the form of Soldado and Ade, you can't get much worse than those two on form at the moment. He has the versatility factor of being able to play as an inside forward too, so that's always a bonus in my eyes. Who would be an ideal target for you, Thor?
