I really wish we would go 3-5-2 when we are missing our creative full backs. Have Dragosin, Romero and VDV. Then Sarr and either Bentancur or Bissouma sitting in front with Maddison playing behind Richarlison/kulu and Son, Then pace on the wings in Johnson and Werner. Make the pitch big and have some genuine pace as an outlet.

I'm not sure why we can't switch to that permanently tbh.

Udogie and especially Porro are suspect defensively and far more effective further up the pitch. We don't seem to have any midfielders who can protect the defence either way, so why not go some way to solving the problem by increasing the number of defenders in the first place?

As PNP has said, we started the season with a 433 formation and seem to have drifted into an old school 4231 approach, and it has ended up being lots of half baked cakes everywhere. The midfield is overrun with ease, the FBs are regularly caught out of position and the wingers don't seem to know what their role is.

It's probably down to the fact the players have seen his (lack of) finishing ability in training.

A large part of it comes from Udogie not releasing the ball quickly enough meaning that Werner is making runs expecting a pass but instead Udogie continues his run and, as a result, his run gets wasted. The rest is from the other side of the same coin, where several of our CMs take a touch or two more than they need so the ball is slower than Werner's run

This is why our not even attempting a ball over the top is maddening, as we have forwards with the pace to make something of it plus players who can accurately find teammates when doing so in Bentancur and Dragusin (and Bergvall has this in his locker too) so it is a workable fallback - and given Veliz will surely be getting more playing time next season that's another reason we need to consider it as an option going forward
