I partially agree with points both you and Spurly have made.

What Spurly says about wanting new signings, not just because they're shiny and new, is correct and fair. Regardless of how much the club or some fans try playing it down, we had a terrible summer window and failed to strengthen our squad at a time our rivals significantly improved theirs.

I also think Spurly is well aware we can't compete financially with bigger sides. Where I differ from him though is that I don't believe our first XI can be massively improved on without City finances. But what I do believe is that we had plenty of scope to improve our squad. We have a number of players who outside the first XI could be improved upon, not forgetting our situation at CM where Dembele can no longer play regularly while Winks and any other CMs aren't up to the required level (at least not yet).

You're absolutely right about us having huge success in finding or developing players but ultimately that can't be the only model to rely upon for club success/ potential success.

Spurs are in a very precarious position of being so close to greatness yet also so close to falling apart. If the club doesn't do anything special this season, IE top four AND silverware, I think we'll likely lose some key players, I'd wager Eriksen and Toby being two of them. This is why we should've strengthened over the summer to keep competition for places at a high and to also increase chances of potential success in order to ensure key players commit their futures.

This coming January is going to be absolutely huge for us, we absolutely must strengthen our squad otherwise the following summer could be a very painful one for the club.

I've only just watched the game, re-shown in full on Super Sports, and I thought both Winks and Sissoko had wonderfull games. Winks looks like he has so much time on the ball, always the sign of a good player.

It's being suggested that Yarmolenko tore his ACL yesterday and could face six months on the sidelines

Of course, grotty little club that they are, there's plenty of West Scam fans out there trying to say that Spurs fans lack class as every single one of them were cheering and sarcastically waving as he was being stretchered off in spite of
    a.) This obviously being bollocks
b.) Those fans who were being scummy have been roundly criticised by Spurs fans
c.) I'm sure we could compile a list of clubs who laugh at the idea of West Scam United fans having a grain of sand's worth of class between them

I don't take it for granted but the game is about glory. I'm struggling to believe that at a time when the game is drowning in money...we are skint...yes I know we have a stadium to pay for...I'm afraid Levy is hiding behind that excuse. This is progress that has been made over the last decade do I am far from spoilt...however now we are at that ceiling/crossroads and Levy is hiding behind the stadium. He and his representatives should have just kept their mouths shut instead of making out as though the stadium wont interfere with our development on the pitch.

If it's true that Poch had the money but won't just buy for the sake of it then I'm behind that...I'm sick of us having no money yet plenty to waste on crap like French wingers. I would have had Jaden Sancho from City over all of them...are we too shy to even try to do business with our top 4 counterparts? I'm not saying we could have him for msny readons but our scouting is piss poor...we don't have money yet we employ scouts who don't specialise in unearthing young talent. We are the only team in the top 6 that won't do business with the other 5...yet there is plenty talent there...we don't even try to do it.

I think I'm very realistic when I say our transfer policy is poor and there is much room for improvement...for me it's all about the owner..his vision.

Who signs quality in January? It's either no brainer signings for top dollar or squad fillers or players who might be ready after a full pre season with us...frustrating stuff

We as a club generally don't do much business in January but then we also don't generally go a whole summer without signing anyone... So here's hoping this January is an exception. Best January signings I can think of are Lucas, Woodgate and the re-signing of Kaboul from Portsmouth (at a time where Kaboul was actually a beast).

If Barrios' supposed agent is to be believed on Instagram, Barrios is joining at some point in 2019 and judging by the way South American leagues work, it will likely be January.

As for anyone else, who knows, N'Dombele, de Jong, Grealish, Watkins and one or two others have been linked but so will 50 others by the end of December. The club can't afford to stand still in Jan though so I'd expect some movement.

For whatever reason(s) we failed to land midfield targets in the summer that we needed for First XI duty. We didn't need back-ups or prospects but 2 players ready to go out of the box. We still need them. We have no choice but to go in January or suffer the consequences.

DL won't want Mousa Dembele to go for nothing, so he'll have to be replaced and Big Vic is becoming the new Sandro - we all love him but he's not going to be the same player again.

I'm hoping that we've already sorted deals for those 2 players for January and are now talking to prospects and their clubs about a left back, centre half and a left sided forward/striker to come in then or next summer. No more behaving like a small club and always sniffing around for bargains and arguing about the last penny on every deal.

It`s always nice to beat the Scammers in their cup final, no matter how we do it. Good first half and we should maybe have been 2 up at HT, second half was not as good but we dug in well and in the end deserved the points. Stand out players for me were Lamela, Winks, Toby, Lloris and Sissoko, Hugo appears to now have his mojo back after a few too many weeks celebrating the World Cup and Sissoko is now slowly proving his worth.

A big few weeks coming up and we`ll need to step it up further if we are to get anything from £ity and go through our CL group, fingers crossed for no more injuries.

Looking at the situation laterally, I can see why we failed to sign the midfield targets

Tanguy Ndombele - we believed that Lyon hadn't exercised their option with Amiens to turn his loan into a permanent deal so we could swoop in with a £30m offer and snatch him from under Lyon's noses, sort of like we did when we signed Alderweireld from under Southampton's - but it transpired that Lyon had exercised the option and just hadn't announced it, so the prospective fee doubled overnight

Wilmar Barrios - when we were first linked to Barrios it coincided with Boca flattering to deceive in the Copa Libertadores, as they were third in their group behind Palmeiras and Junior and looking down the barrel of dropping into the Copa Sudamericana, but the final round of fixtures saw Boca squeeze through in second place and drawn in the last 16 against Paraguayan titans Libertad to be played in August...in order words they had an October quarter final against either Flamengo or Cruzeiro to prepare for. If they failed to better Junior's final result in the group stage, or if they drew pretty much any other team in Pot 1 for the last 16, we could have signed Barrios on Deadline Day

    Jack Grealish
    - a combination of umming and ahhing on our end coupled with Villa's owners deciding that of all the chairmen in English football they wanted to sound like it was Jeremy Peace, so they decided they would be the chairmen to defeat Levy...forgetting that Berahino's career promptly went off a cliff after Peace ****ed him over, and looking at the Championship table at the moment their stance doesn't seem to be paying off (although time may tell)

I agree for the most part, but apparently, we tried to get Sancho at the same time as the Walker deal, I heard he was interested. It appeared Man City, however, simply didn't want to strengthen us. The same can be said for Man United and Martial. The other top six teams seem to have a superiority complex where we are concerned, and whilst they are sometimes prepared to make deals with each other, they generally avoid it with us, unless of course, they are on the buying end of the deal. We've also seen them outbidding us on players that are arguably surplus to their requirements.

I also think that deals for most positions in need of strengthening, CM especially this season, signings have been dependent on teams coming in to make deals for players making their exit.

I think January will be the biggest barometer of the ambitions of the club, chairman and manager since this entire stadium chapter began.

I'd agree with all of that. It may well be that we had the unluckiest transfer window ever. I'll also just about accept that it wasn't anybody's fault but just bad luck. However, now it needs rectifying and rectifying in January if we're to challenge at the end of this season.

I want 2 midfielders in on 1 January, not the 31st. We made some errors, let's correct them.

    It's like he's reading Pochettino's notes or something! <laugh>
Dembele seems a lot more natural in front of the camera, but he clearly doesn't like being there.
Nice to hear him being so positive about Lamela, though. He deserves that praise.

When they wouldn't strengthen us with Sancho a Youth team player...we were still happy to strengthen them with a first teamer <steam>

We have form for this...our special arrangement with Real? Where they buy our talent and we get to send them a Xmas card for selling us VDV 8 years ago.

We haven't won anything for ages and the other top teams are worried about us? I like the sound of that!

Deserves that for being such a spacker with his video camera. Can't stand this era of fans recording themselves at games, same goes for the <club name> Fan TV stuff. Outside of the AFTV mongs, we definitely have one of the worst ones with that expressions prick, hope one day someone lumps him so he can stop embarrassing us. I still remember when Moh from AFTV got chased down the high road and had to hide in Greggs <laugh>
