The handball law is particularly stupid. It would be much better if the ball hitting the hand was always an indirect free kick. You shouldn’t get an advantage from a handball but a penalty is often much too harsh a punishment. It would be interesting to see how abolishing offside would affect the game.
Unfortunately Luke we live in a multi camera multi opinionated sporting world where any slightly contentious decision is under the microscope. VAR or not this is sport in its current state.
People will still argue with VAR decisions, how often do so called experts/pundits argue for hours on decisions after watching 40 camera angle, super slo mo 50 times
Very true. I live in Sydney where the main winter sport is rugby league, they introduced a system called the bunker a few years ago to help the on field refs. All it did was prolong the decision making because of that exact reason. So they introduced for the season just gone a time limit of 30-40 seconds and it sped up the game and the correct call was made.
Oh they get the debate down to 30 seconds when the team involved is not any of their darlings or rivals of said darlings.
