I thought our defeat at West Ham last season cost us the championship.Darn me.We've done it again, although this season I think Chelsea would have won it if we had won on he Hackney Marshes or not. Strange that on both occasions Spurs forgot to turn up and made West Ham look better than they are.
You implied people were being paranoid about the media linking our players to other clubs as this happens to all clubs. My point was (clearly) that NO OTHER club has seen 9 FIRST TEAM players linked with a move away to join rivals. I even called the media reports bollocks. My point was we are not paranoid about the media chatting rubbish about us as you implied
You are an obvious target because you have very good players and are known to pay comparatively low wages. When you look at United, City and Chelsea the wages are a fair bit higher so it is harder to link their players to teams who could afford them (not transfer fee wise). You have to learn to live with success and trust your players, if the players are happy do you think they will base their future on speculative press rumours?
What you think astonishing is irrelevant. The ONLY players we did NOT want to sell in the last 16 years (since Enic took over and Levy was made our Chairman) but did are; 1) Campbell - refused contract - left on a free 2) Carr - refused contract as he want to leave - sold 3) Carrick - refused contract stated publicly that he was going to united 4) Keane - put in a transfer request to go to his "boyhood club" and made it clear he would do whatever was needed to leave. 5) Berbatov - refused to play for us to force a move 6) Modric - refused to play for us to join Chelsea but we refused and accepted less to sell him abroad so we didn't sell to a premier league team 7) Bale - made it clear that he wanted to go to Madrid so we agreed a one year extention deal like united did re Ronaldo leaving. We sold other players because they were not first choice such as siggy, defoe, chadli etc. and others because they simply were not wanted. If someone came in and offered £90m for Dele but he said he wanted to stay are you suggesting we would sell him? Or Kane? Or Eriksen? Or Lloris? Or Rose? Or Toby? Or Walker? Or Trippier? Or Dier? Losing those players weakens us. They would only be sold if they demanded to leave. If we had a better player than Eriksen next season then we may chose to sell him but that'll be because we decide it is the roght thing to do for the club. We sold Siggy and Chadli yet we are not called a selling club cos of them ... we are wrongly labelled a selling club cos of Keane, Berbatov, Modric and Bale...all players who demanded to leave...so we had no choice.
All good things... I'm not going to complain we came up short for the first time in (edit) 10 PL games. Given Palace had been beating everyone lately, Palace-Arsenal-West Ham was a very difficult sequence. The problem isn't just beating one club, it's not getting so high after a win that you're flat for the next game. Of course I would rather not lose to West Ham, but at least it happened when the title race looked done and dusted. A great effort overall this season, even if this wasn't a good game.
I dont have to learn anything mate...We simply criticised the media for spouting ****e while you called it paranoia. As for the happy stuff I have no idea. Football is awash with greed. Was Ronaldo unhappy scoring for fun at United, winning titles, CL's, getting to finals and being the highest paid footballer in the UK? Or was the extra hundred thousand a week at Real Madrid the difference? Diego Costa is about to throw away his career to go to China cos of money...will any one be surprised if he goes?
Think that's a little unfair. Soton pushed us and fought from 1 down to equalise but maybe could have given a bit more after cahills goal went in. Everton actually pushed as quite hard. Hit the post early on and kept our chances down until midway through the second half and pedro scored that wonder goal. After that they collapsed though
I think you are getting worked up about very little here, you have said you have never sold a player you wanted to keep unless they wanted to go and refused to play for you. If your players want to stay what difference do press comments make? Like I said, when you have great players they will always be linked to other clubs. From what you say it should be no problem for you because if you want to keep them (and they don't want to leave) nothing will change just like the previous 16 seasons.
I have no idea what that means. We obviously wanted to keep Berbatov, Keane, Modric, Bale, Carrick etc.
I ain't worked up...I simply disagree with your comment about people on the board being paranoid. Personally, as a Spurs fan I am loving us not being ****. The last 11 years have seen us only fail to qualify for European competition once. The previous 11 only saw us qualify once. I have seen some fabulous players and we have challenged for trophies. The years between 1992 and 2005 were pretty rubbish as a whole but since then it's been a steady climb upwards. Like I said my ONLY point has been that spurs fans on here are not paranoid about the press writing ****e about us being a selling club and about linking our players to others on a level and frequwncy that other clubs do not get. These things are a fact. No other club have had 9 first team players linked to other teams this season.
I may be coming over all wrong here so I will try to put my position clear as an opposition supporter. After the first 3rd of the season I accepted there were probably only 3 teams with enough quality and squad depth to win the league, City, Chelsea and Spurs. Of these 3 teams Spurs were by far my first preference to win it because of the way they play and the actual players in the team. I have no axe to grind and am not out to do your team/club down. What has disappointed me in the last 2 seasons is the fact that Spurs supporters (some at least) have become the new Liverpool supporters in so far as everyone is against them, the refs, the press, the commentators, the pundits This and the Liverpool board is the only place where comments on match threads contain as many posts about ref decisions as the football being played. It all comes down (in my opinion) to being so close to the top yet falling short, the need for someone to blame becomes strong and anyone is better than the club/manager/team. You lot were never like this until you became serious challengers yet now you want to blame everyone else because you haven't made the final step yet. Please don't become the next Liverpool, you have a great future in your team so just enjoy it.
And like I have said, take this as a compliment on the quality of your players. If they are happy they will stay regardless of what the press say.
I can only assume you hated having SAF as a manager then cos thats all he ever did if United lost. He would ban journalists, particular papers and in one case boycotted the BBC for years. The same is true of Jose...apart from when he is slagging off his own players. He has moaned about fixture congestion, player fatigue, an anti united biase in the media reporting of matches, refereeing decisions etc virtually every week. Both of them and united fans revelled in claiming everyone hated united...you lot even coined the phrade ABU. So I think that it's a bit kettle pot black of you to to say that about spurs fans. I do not read other boards match threads apart from the Arsenal ones (cos I've been writing them) but would be amazed if only our board and the Liverpool one moaned about referees and decisions. However there are not "as many posts about referees as the football on match threads" on the Spurs boards. Finally none of what you wrote has anything to do with the media chatting rubbish about our players leaving which was where this started. We will continue to slate the media calling us a selling club and linking virtually our entire first team to teams below us. And that is cos; A) it's a legit thing to chat about on a football website B) it's bollocks Glad you like our team though.
You do realise that anything a manager says is not always the same as the supporters (see Wenger for further information). The term ABU still stands true, it was never aimed at the press/Sky etc (we are their darlings), it was aimed at the jealous supporters of other clubs that were looking for anyone to beat us regardless of affiliations.
Was only suggesting you must have found your managers irritatingjudging your comments re Liverpool and some spus fans. If spurs fans are paranoid for thinking the things on here then surely ABU is a sign of united fans paranoia. Your point about being press and sky darlings is also true of liverpool...which is why they do not have stories of 9 players going to rivals. City and Chelsea dont have it cos they have more money than God so calling them a selling club looks stupid. Arsenal don't have it cos they are simply ****e. Anyway...interesting chat but bed time!
We've definitely been up there competing, and I'm very proud of how we've done this season. It's the best I can remember for many different reasons. But I just think the title race just been blown out of proportion because no one else has bothered to even remotely challenge Chelsea this season. We couldn't have won it unless Chelsea ****ed up, therefore the with it being out of our control, it just doesn't seem like much of a race to me, especially with how big the gap has been.
