Moss is a total ****! In what world of football is that thug Maclean's assault on Dembele not a straight red card? If there was any sense of fair play, or even common sense from the F.A. there would a facility whereby idiotic decisions like that are overturned and the correct one given. WBA should have been down to 10, and McLean should be warming a bench for at least three matches!
When Alli went dancing through a few near the start of the second half, wasn't it Maclean that brought him down? That was a sure fire yellow. Yellows are always (!) given under those circumstances, often accompanied by the pundits saying something like "taking one for the team". Good job then WBA players are immune to such punishment. What's to stop WBA from indulging in exactly the same anti-football tactics if they get away with it? As was mentioned earlier, they push the boundaries of acceptable play, and it's up to the officials to keep them in check. Unfortunately I really believe they wouldn't be allowed to get away with it against certain teams.
I think it's the tackle on dier you're on about but he clearly won the ball so no foul. Watching the WBA goal it's actually dier who let's fletcher run past him and get the cross in
Has anyone seen any "wide angle" footage of the Dele Alli goal ?? I've been trying to see what his movement was at the point just before Toby made the punt (Hoddle-esque vision rather than Hammers hoof ?? ) .
Definitely a big fan of Toby's Dawson-esque diagonals. Excellently read by Alli and a lovely first time finish All in all not a bad weekend of results for us. United, City and Pool all unexpectedly dropped points. Chelsea's season is essentially finished. Now a draw between Palace and Everton tomorrow to ensure that we're safe and sound in 5th come next week would be a perfect end to the weekend.
Bit of a bore-fest all in all, neither side created too many chances and the balance of play was ruined by shocking refereering. How Moss gave a yellow for that tackle on Dembele I'll never know, that's one of the most blatant reds you'll see in today's game - in fact it would've seen a red in Vinnie Jones and Roy Keane's heydays! Then the line-o flagging for Clint was again another wrong call and had they not flagged it would've likely been his first goal for us considering the position he'd have been in. I was also pissed off at the amount of times WBA tackled our guys after the ball had gone and only once was it penalised when Rose got hacked down, I counted about 3 times on Alli, 2 times of Mousa and other nibbles to other players. The tactics WBA employed were typical of Pulis' Stoke era, it was dirty. A few of our key players massively underperformed, too. I thought Jan had his worst game this season, I don't understand why he was constantly allowing the long balls to bounce, twice Rondon got the better of him when he allowed a bounce and it could've cost us. Toby also didn't seem as defensively sound as he has been since he joined and he too nearly allowed Rondon with a golden chance. Eriksen and Kane were both non-existent, I was pretty shocked to see Lamela's number on the 4th officials' board to be taken off for Son as I thought Erik was working hard and playing OK and didn't understand how Eriksen stayed on the pitch. As for Kane, this is where the argument of no backup/ competition came into play as he was also poor but Poch doesn't really have the option to change him about unless he sticks Son up top. Despite a bunch of negatives there were positives, Alli's goal was fantastic, Toby's pass would've made Pirlo and Xavi proud and the finish of Alli to volley it through Myhill's legs was pure class. We were reminded as to why we have the best keeper in the league after that world class save from Olsson and yet again we haven't lost, granted there's been a few too many draws but a point away at WBA is always a good one as they have the ability to cause any team harm at The Hawthorns and the fact we still remain unbeaten is always a confidence booster for the team. A lot of results went our way anyway, with Chelsea losing again (), Pool losing, Utd drawing, City losing with only Leicester and Arsenal gaining maximum points. If someone said we'd have only been 6 points off top and 4 off 2nd in December while getting a nose bleed at looking down on Chelsea, I'd have taken that.
That sums it up nicely--except Kane got hauled down with the ball at point blank range when he was about to score. I don’t know why that’s gotten so little attention. I also had the feeling he could have been shot and it wouldn’t have been given as a pen. Tbf, it would have spoiled so much work by the officials, it is understandable. It’s funny how as Spurs fans we tend to focus more on the poor effort overall by our players rather than the shocking bias of the officials. Vertonghen has always been poor in the air, but this was the worst yet. Couldn’t he spend a little time working out what he should do, rather than wait for the ball to bounce and then fail to break up play with a weak attempt at a header? I also didn’t like Lamela being subbed. It seems Pochettino has a pecking order, in which Lamela and Son are now 11A and 11B. It would be better to either sub on merit, or, probably better, accept that 13 players (including Mason) at this point have done enough to earn regular starts, and simply rotate them. Finally, though I hated their style of play and violent conduct, West Brom’s players worked very, very hard. I hope we use the long ball down the middle for what can now be called the Chelsea-West Brom tactics: harrass the ball and take away the wide threats. We should have had two, probably three from them Saturday.
I was out all day so only saw the SKY football first edition and missed this. Can someone with the tech know how, upload it please-or point me in the direction where I might find it.-TA I blame the conditions. It was very hard to judge the ball with that wind. And WBA were taking advantage and hoofing balls up.
I wonder if the officials will be so generous to WBA when they play Liverpool next weekend. I won't hold my breath.
Agree about the Kane one, he clearly had an arm on his shoulder but as Kane still got to the ball the ref took the easy way out and did nothing. I think I forgot about it at the end after McClean's assault went unpunished, which made me even more angry as he won't even get banned for it. They showed it again on Sky Sports, Moss clearly indicates that he got the ball and is playing on until someone has a word in his ear. Admittedly he's behind Dembele but it was in the middle of the pitch and he had the best view of any official. How can you not spot a knee-high lunge from that range? Useless twat, hopefully we don't have to suffer through another game of his for awhile. I thought West Brom played some good football when they got it but off the ball they were very dirty.

For those that missed the delightful challenge by McClean: Seriously, what the **** is that? I mentioned it during the game, but the scissor tackle by Dawson on Rose was also total ****e. He'd already won the ball and put it out for a corner, then realised he had an opportunity to have a free pop at an opposition player. Very cynical and nasty, which could well be a summary of West Brom in that game, unfortunately. Eriksen going down off the ball to what appeared to be an elbow and Alli having his shirt ripped open were also lowlights.
West Brom's assistant head coach, Dave Kemp, had this to say about McClean's tackle: "It was a perfectly good tackle in my book." "I don't know if you saw the Salford City versus Hartlepool game (in the FA Cup second round on Friday night). "There was a similar tackle to that and it was just wave play on. "A comment was made if that had been a Premier League game he would have produced a yellow card and who would have thought it would actually happen 24 hours later." What a pillock. At least we know that it's coming from the coaching staff, now.
I'd suggest that Dave Kemp gets himself a new 'book' then! Perhaps he'll change his tune when one of his players is on the receiving end of something similar?
As I mentioned before I am not at all surprised that our players 'underperformed', self preservation is what I would call it. I think we should commend our players for taking this **** and just getting on with the game. When you look at the histrionics that we see from players like Diego Costa and Ashley Young the contrast is obvious. The referee was a complete disgrace and should be reminded that he is responsible for the welfare of the players as well as keeping TV viewers happy with fluent football. I think instructions to referees should be in the public domain so that we can all see who is responsible for this attitude to refereeing, if it is in the public domain then it should be reported properly. The PFA should surely be visible in this situation, working for player safety.
I agree about the pull back on Kane when he was about to score, it should have been a penalty and a red card for the Albion defender. WBA could easily have ended the match with 9 men and were lucky with the referee bottling decisions, all in all, with a competent referee, Spurs would probably have won by a couple of goals.
I heard one comment saying he won the ball. You can clearly see he didn't actually. His trailing leg got it by chance as Dembele stops just before he gets there seeing what's coming.
