You mean Tom Huddlestone, right? Not some ancient bloke from 1912 or something? He left in 2013. He was never on the losing side against West Brom in a Spurs shirt. He lost at The Hawthorns with Hull in early January last season. I hope that's not what you're referring to.
It goes without saying that had Spurs been Pool or United today, McLean would have been red carded, Njie would have been given onside, and Kane would have had a penalty for being pulled back when about to score.
@luvgonzo how much had you had to drink on the 'New Years' you're referring to? Put it this way: was Noel Edmonds playing in goal for West Brom?
I don’t know where to begin, with the same old Spurs, turning in their worst performance of the year when it looked like they had every chance of taking a big step forward, or the shocker from the officials. In a nutshell, they let West Brom get away with murder in the first half, almost never calling the many fouls they committed, so West Brom pushed the envelope in the second. This managed to overshadow one of the worst missed calls of the year, with Kane being hauled down by the shoulder as he was about to score. Credit to Pulis, who must have watched Chelsea take away our wide options. No credit to Spurs, whose response was to stroll around aimlessly. It was a full-on AVB at its worst performance, which only kept out a second goal thanks to more heroics from Lloris. The most disturbing thing was the lack of running from a team that had every reason to continue working hard. My only thought is that perhaps it’s the week after a big effort when legs get rubbery. Well, we’ll just have to hope this was a one-off. COYS! Oh yeah, I forgot Clinton was wrongly called offside. The refs were absolute homers today, as hopeful for approval from the crowd as puppies. I can’t believe it would have happened to the Sky 4. To be more precise, every once in a blue moon it does, and for the same homer reasons. It just happens to us far more often. All us conspiracy nuts have already taken note that while the Spurs deserve to be the leading foulers in the league (or very nearly) the fact that they’re one of the least fouled stinks. They are in fact certainly one of the more, and probably one of the most fouled.
It’s a small point, but why were we taking outswinging corners today? It removed all threat from them, I thought. Is it because West Brom is strong in the air? Considering we’ve been scoring on set pieces and on the counter, taking away the corner threat and knocking it sideways when there’s a chance to counter isn’t good. Pulis and the team get some credit for pressing and running hard, though the way rough play segued into violence was dangerous and should have been stopped.
It's disappointing in that we've drawn the game but recently the Gooners went there and lost to Pulis' Rugby XI. On a foul day with high winds and the officials favouring the home team, I'll take a draw. Plenty of other sides will struggle there as they did at Stoke when Pulis was managing there. This result isn't a problem if we can turn draws into wins from now on and have a strong Christmas and New Year. For that to happen we need to get some players back, particularly Chadli and Pritchard who between them offer something different and the prospect of an increased goal threat. Obviously, we also need to sign someone in January to take the burden of leading the line off Kane and give Eriksen a bit of a rest. Everybody and his dog knew we went into this season light up front. Considering that, what the team has produced is bloody wonderful. If we'd had someone to help up front we would be far less likely to have drawn as many as we have. Anyway, bollocks to that Chelsea 0 v 1 Bournemouth. Hilarious. ****ing Hilarious!!
Ah, Chelsea. The gift that keeps on giving. You've cheered me up no end this weekend. I salute you and your ****eness.
I only saw the first half and although I had a non football reason for missing the second half I was already heartily sick of watching yet another Pullis anti football team. Just Stoke all over again. You have to say he is very skilled at producing these tough hard to beat thuggish teams but I really don't want to watch it. I don't blame our players for not giving it their all because without the protection of the referee, and the half I saw he fell for every trick that WBA pulled, they risked injury against this lot. Let's just move on and be thankful we came away with a draw.
It was defo new years day at the hawthorns I'm really not sure how long ago it was. This could get really embarrassing for me with how far back it goes.
28th December 2008 was our last loss at west brom...so you need to keep going back past 7 years. That's how you know you're getting old...over 7 years becomes a couple of years ago
Ok narrowing it down after checking the head 2 head it must have been 28.12.2008 2-0 win at the hawthorns the only other one would have been 2005 and I would remember that a little better.
On reflection, my criticisms of our attacking ideas were too harsh. They took away our fullbacks and harrassed the ball industriously. That should have made them vulnerable to balls over the top. We scored on one, and should certainly have had one, and very likely two more, except the referee missed the most blatant pen you could hope to see, and also wrongly ruled Clinton was offside when he was in clear on goal. So we actually adjusted well to what they were doing, really. Their response to Kane about to score was to haul him down. That really says it all about their approach to the game. Break the rules and hope the officials don’t have the cojones to call them on it. While I think our response after scoring was bad, still, and also still think it’s fair to say we still haven’t shown we can get more out of this year than in the past, it was two points we lost to the officials today, no more and no less. A win wouldn’t have been that much help, and the draw doesn’t hurt us very badly, especially as we picked up ground on Man City (and Chelsea!), and stayed level with Man U.
Moss was rubbish, but I was more annoyed at the match director for failing to catch much of it, for some reason. There were a number of incidents that looked extremely controversial and yet no replays were forthcoming. It was like a game from the distant past. Alli's ripped shirt in the box, Eriksen going down holding his chest off the ball and loads of late, late tackles spring to mind. The referee only has one chance to catch this stuff and a side like that will make it very hard for him. I don't see how that excuse works for some twat in a box with a ton of replays, though.
You're right PNP, there were not enough replays of controversial moments. Added to the incidents you mention, I thought there might have been a dodgy tackle at the start of the move that led to their goal, I think a tackle from behind that could have been called. Sure there were a few more passes after that, but I'd still like to see the incident again.
