Only 3 attempts on target is the problem...we need to get more goals...defensively we are ok...but we just don't score enough which is costing us big time
WBA horrible team. But would the ref let them get away with all their stuff against ManU or Liverpool?
1-1 FT. Not our best day, by any means. Failed to deal with their physicality, struggled with the ****ing wind FFS and didn't create enough. Bloody awful officials didn't help, either. Looked out of sorts for a lot of the game, despite dominating possession for long parts. That might be something that we're used to inflicting on our opponents, so I guess West Brom deserve credit for it. They play like bloody Stoke did under Pulis, though. Ugly with a very nasty edge, but effective.
Feels like a defeat. Can't keep drawing games like this. We weren't at our best but 2 decisions in the last 10 minutes really could've given us the win but the ref bottled the clearest red you'll ever see for McClean(didn't even think it was a foul!) and N'Jie was wrongly called offside when one-on-one with the 'keeper. It's nice to be still unbeaten but 6 wins in 15 isn't enough.
Our CBs struggled with the windy conditions and balls in the air today caused them problems. I think the intensity in general dropped off too much in the second half and we pinned WBA in too deep and played the game too slowly in the second 45 minutes to cause a well drilled Pulis team problems. Let them out a bit then up the intensity when there is space to exploit. Pinning in a team with a back 4 and another CB in midfield is not a great tactic IMO as the space reduces so much. It is very much a Pulis team and you know what you're going to get, ref and linesmen could have dealt with one or two incidents (both discipline and offsides) better, and WBA could and probably should have finished with 10 after that challenge on Dembele. We certainly didn't do enough to win though I think, under the circumstances, regardless of refereeing decisions as they stood. So many draws in our unbeaten run is not great, agreed. Son coming back into first team consideration recently should have been a catalyst for us to kick on as I think he is a better fit for us than Dembele and that long term with him in the team we will be more effective despite the Belgian's improved form over the last month or so, but Son has looked very rusty since returning. Hopefully we pick up soon.
I watched you play there one very cold new years day a few years back, you lost then as well. With your record there you should be happy with a point.
these god damn draws! maybe we lack a plan B to mix things up a bit...because to me so many draws suggest that the oppo defence is comfortable with our attacking play.
Thought we were unbeaten at west brom for about 7 years. We won last season and drew 3 all the year before (we were three down and missed a penalty) Think the last time we lost away to them was when Redknapp first took over in December 2008
We actually have a decent recent record at the hawthorns, haven't lost there since 2008, maybe this is the match you refer to as we have never played you on new years day , we have drawn 2 and won 3 since.
We've only lost once there since they got promoted back to the PL, winning 3 and drawing 2. It's sliightly better than our 2 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss at home to them since they came back up.
He's a Liverpool fan. 'A few years back' can quite feasibly mean 7 years or more, or can even refer to a different century entirely. Since as we all know, footballing history ended in 1989.
