Surprise of the Season.... Shearer comes up with a balanced analysis of the game...... ‘I didn't think the referee (Martin Atkinson) was decent at all. I don't think it was a penalty on Richarlison, but the referee gave a red card (to Davinson Sanchez), which I think is slightly harsh. Sanchez has not thrown his elbow out.’ Pretty much as I saw it, although I actually understand the sending off decision. Never thought I’d see the day!
It was definitely a red but not violent/dangerous conduct imo. He was trying to block the player's run not knock him out. It happened to be that he led into this block - usually a yellow - with a raised arm, which was stupid and turned that yellow into a red. One match ban should be the penalty. Marco Silva effectively said the same thing in his comments. But knowing our luck, they'll throw the book at him and issue a lifelong ban! Wouldn't be surprised to see a 3 match ban but when you look at some of the assaults Huth has gotten away with over the years it makes the blood boil.
Of course they do. I pointed out two today. The first was a backpass, which Atkinson and at least two of our own players don't appear to know the rules to. The second was the penalty call at the end. Debatable, but I'd expect to see it given most of the time. Does that make up for his utter incompetence throughout the game? Not for me. Should've had an obvious penalty early on, their goal should've been a foul for us up the other end and he let them get away with endless fouls. He was heavily criticised by everyone and he deserved it. Had an awful game.
22 games played so far this season and still no penalty kick for Spurs, amazing that none of our players have been fouled in the opposition penalty area in around 2000 minutes of football. I fear another AVB season long penalty drought at this rate.
Yes, that time Mark Clattenberg helped us secure a draw at Old Trafford by declaring a shot which had crossed the line didn't count. Pedro Mendes played for Man Utd, right? As he tends to have when he's in charge of one of our games. Hardly unique to the AVB era. The same thing happened in the Jol and Redknapp eras.
They may not have got many, but they didn't go a season without, IIRC. 2012/13 was the only one and Swansea joined us.
Here's a complete list of all our Premier League penalties, and there's some definite gaps in the timeline: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/elfmeterstatistik/verein/148/plus/0?reldata=GB1&
The reffeering was abysmal but we were so poor attacking wise yesterday. So many players making poor decisions on the ball again, under weighted passes, over weighted passes it was poor by the boys and we need so much more from Eriksen, Dele and Son in particular. We showed excellent character but we did well to come away with a point especially with the Dier handball at the end and Dacoure's shot that hit the post. What the hell is going on with our set pieces ? were just not a threat at all. Eriksen needs to come off these duties and we need much better movement in the box. Just not good enough by Spurs at the moment. Its so important we have champions league football in our opening season at the new WHL.
Managers often get lucky from a fluke of a situation. Maybe Poch will see/be forced to revert to a back 4 and as a team we will play 4-4-2 or 4-3-3. Our current WBs are not as they were and are not supplying the goods.
I would still like to see Rose started at outside left....just to saee teams surprised by someone actually receiving a pass and head towards the opposing goal. This could wipe out the sideways/backwards passing forever!!~!!!!
Anyone else watching soccer Saturday? Jeff and his group of muppets analysing this game. They’ve completely focussed on how Watford could have had 2 penalties, and how we scored as a result of them not getting one of them. However, they’ve completely ignored how our players were assaulted throughout the match and how so many Watford players managed to either not get booked, or escaped being sent off. Whilst I don’t disagree with Sanchez’s sending off, or their penalty shouts, the agenda against us sometimes is bloody hilarious.
