I would'nt criticise him - the only thing missing for me is his match fitness and awareness - so if does all that - tremendous in my book
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has lavished praise on his Sunderland counterpart Jordan Pickford. The 22-year-old Black Cats stopper was called upon to make a number of saves against Spurs and was key in keeping the score to 1-0, with only Harry Kane able to squeeze a shot past him from close range in the second half. "I think we can congratulate their keeper, he was amazing today. I think he's 21 or 22. Last season he was brilliant too. I prefer that you talk a bit more about his performance because it's not easy - every game he has to make more than five saves and mentally you can get tired, but today he was amazing and until the end he made the difference," said Lloris. Everyone can see that Pickford is the real deal. Keeping him maybe a problem. This lad is destined for the top.
Stay in the top flight we should get half a decade from him I reckon. He loves the club and I reckon he'll want to give a large chunk for career for us. It would still leave him 10 years to chase honours. He's got a very long career ahead of him. Just a baby in keeper terms.
After the Southampton game there were rumblings on my facebook friends saying "need to get a decent keeper signed. All Pickford's fault" etc etc. COmpletely forgot the previous 85 minutes where he'd been good and focussed on one mistake. My mother said the same. Thought he did everything right yesterday bar his kicking - but that may be borne from frustration rather than anything (was fuinny on monday against Everton as well when he booted the ball of the Everton players head - I have no doubt that he meant it!!)
You keep referring to his kicking, but he is one the best keepers I have seen regarding footwork, those long passes you keep referring to were the closest we got to hitting them on the break, and it almost worked in the first half when Defoe got his only shot on target and incidentally received his only pass of the game, this boy has it all, and his name and Guardiola's has already been mentioned, this parallels my thoughts, watch this space.
Well he looks a better keeper than Bravo from what I've seen. Pickford has so many things going for him, it's not like he's just a good shot stopper like a lot of other top flight keepers, he can long pass with accuracy and his recovery time after a stop is second to none. I think the lad has integrity and he's actually a fan of the club, I reckon these two things could help us to keep him in the long term.
To defend his kicking though, He did drop it in for Defoe twice(once long and once short). More than Vito and Pants ever seemed to manage.
Hope so but I doubt it, I likened him to Monty, Jimmy that is, not long ago, this lad is as good imo, and I saw Jim from schoolboy to retirement, but these days money rules and sadly I will be surprised if he sees his contract out.
Aye I know what you mean but put it this way, if any player is going to stay at their club it's someone like Pickford, from the area and playing for the club he loves in the best league in the world. I think there's a good chance he'll stay for a long time and it's not just wishful thinking.
Just thought I'd drop by and offer my view of the game, as a fan of the opposition. As I said following your game against Everton, I can see what Moyes is trying to do and I think he's slowly getting there. The results aren't coming at the moment, but you're playing good sides and gradually adjusting to his system. Did you offer much going forward? No, but Moyes was happy to allow us possession and try to pick us off on the break. We didn't take our chances, but we weren't creating a load of good ones and you had the two best in the first half. Your options up front seem very limited at the moment, though. Need a big striker to bring on, at least. There's a big run of games coming up for you now and Moyes needs to step things up a bit. Probably not ideal that your next two league opponents just scored four goals, though!
It was poor positioning from him in terms of body shape, caught square on with the ball always likely to come across him BUT why on earth did Pienaar ( I think it was and can't find video to confirm so pols if incorrect ) give Walker 10 yards and about 3 weeks to pick his cross out? Need to stop the crosses coming in or at least make the oppo work a bit harder to get there!
