Wages as % of turnover: 19th- Manchester Utd 51% 20th- Norwich City 49% This is why FFP rules will benefit Utd if they are implemented properly. The club has been applying them to itself for years.
FFP will more likely cripple the Evertons and Newcastles of the Premier League than the clubs bankrolled by the largess of a their Slavic/Arabic billionaire owners.
WTF is your problem with Sunderland? Did you get knocked back from a mackem lass? You seem to have issues. How do you know we will be in a relegation, the transfer window hasn't even opened yet and we've done ok with Paolo so far. Is it because ****ty Sunderland have won the league title six times, compared to your pathetic two? As for Bent, yeah he was a right waste of money with his 25 goals a season wasn't he Sorry to the other Spurs fans, absolutely nothing against your club. This poster of yours is a tit though.
Exactly. FFP completely inhibits competition and ambition. The sole purpose of it is to maintain status quo but the knock on effect is by doing that you cripple the ambition of Everton, Newcastle, QPR, Southampton and so forth. The top 4 this season will likely earn £40-£50m (at least) more than everybody else due to being in the CL, that will be more money by which they can strengthen their squad thus further cementing their place in the top 4 and continuing to earn more than everybody else. As a knock on effect the popularity of those clubs will grow (look at Chelsea since 2003 and Arsenal since 1997) and they will attract a global fanbase which earns them a further £40-50m more than anybody else. Chelsea and Arsenal have been huge beneficiaries of the Premier League, it could have been Spurs or West Ham in our position as they are also big enough clubs. I don't see why it's fair that other clubs aren't entitled to have the same opportunities to grow as a Liverpool, United, Chelsea or Arsenal. Before I'm accused of acting in self-interest, this is coming from someone who was critical of the spending splurge from 2003-2007 and wants the club to break even and be self sustainable above anything else
Sunderland are an historic club with fantastic support. Even minus some key players tomorrow I am expecting a tough game and we will need to match the work ethic. We SHOULD win, but certainly not taking anything for granted!!
Tell you what mate, come back when you win another 4 league top flight titles and I'll acknowledge you are on par. Every board has it's idiot posters I suppose.
I don't think you'll have a relegation battle next season. I think you've just been undone by having 2 extremely limited and one-dimensional managers in Bruce and O'Neill that have wasted millions on largely average players with Sessesgnon, Fletcher and a few others being exceptions. You've now got a progressive manager in Di Canio and I think you'll be okay. The teams that should worry next season are Hull, Palace/Watford, Fulham, Stoke and Norwich.
We'll get better under PDC's methods, snuffle out the bad eggs. Rome wasn't built in a day though so think we'll get beat tomorrow. Mid table target for next season. It's like we've gone back 4 years in terms of progress.
Even if we had a full team, you should still win mate. You are absolute streets ahead of us with fantastic footballers and one world class player. I think it will be 4-0 to yous tomorrow.
Lets not embarrass ourselves by playing "who's got more trophies", eh? Not sure why TMT dislikes your club but everyone has their preferences, I don't see why you guys are getting so upset about it either. Ah well, bring on tomorrow
I'm not upset. Just mocking him mate. It's called banter. Like said earlier i think you'll win tomorrow, just hope it's not too comfortable. You've got a fantastic side at the moment and an absolute pleasure to watch.
I don't think you've ever given us a comfortable win. I dreamt last night that we beat you guys 2-1(Bale winner in the last 10 minutes) and Arsenal drew 0-0, I was gutted when I woke up Given how poorly we've been defending set pieces lately, I'm sure there's at least a goal in it for you. I just wanted to steer the thread away from a "we've won the 6 times" "well we've won the FA Cup 8 times" argument as they always bore the crap out of me. Plus we all know Spurs have the better trophy haul <run>
To be fair, for most of this season we've looked organised and fairly comfortable in dealing with them. As much as I didn't really like that we brought our striker back for set pieces it seemed to work well for quite awhile but now that's all gone out of the window.
I'll arrive around 1 o'clock tomorrow hoping for some decent weather, anyway a few beers, a few songs, hopefully some friendly banter and may the best team win (probably spurs but it's a crazy game so you never know). All the best lads
Fair assessment, we are minus the only two strikers that can score for us..and you have Bale. Despite PDC trying to gee the team up, most of them on are the beach already. Probably because PDC has already said he thinks we are mentally and physically weak, so our pre-season is going to be a brutal boot camp..that some over cosseted players are running scared of.
