Leicester City's home Premier League game with Tottenham on Thursday has been postponed because of Covid-19. Tottenham also wanted the game postponed to use the date to play their Europa Conference League game with Rennes, which was called off last week after a Covid outbreak. Obviously too late to play today but how about tomorrow?
UEFA have booted us out, they’ve ruled we forfeited the game and thus been given a 3-0 loss. Best chance of a trophy gone…
Loadsa UEFA ranking pts lost (16 - we needed 21 to remain "zero sum" on the 5 yr rolling window) . Backup route to the EL gone. < standard >
1. Our own fault for losing to Mura and Co. 2. UEFA have made a monumentally stupid decision because this could well affect clubs in the bigger European competitions if covid continues to be a problem across Europe come February and they have set an unnecessary precedent. 3. It could well do us a favour as we now don't have to fit in a minimum of one and possibly 3 other games by mid February. 4. **** Rennes and Vietesse for being classless. They whined and moaned instead of simply saying we hope the spurs get over covid safely and letting UEFA make a decision. We have ultimately been kicked out cos Rennes refused to be flexible with a date to rearrange the fixture ... no doubt that'll be changed once the dust settles and it is recognised as an unsporting thing to do.
The ECL exists to give the likes of Mura, Vitesse and the like, an opportunity to compete in a UEFA competition. We were out from the moment that we (rightly) called the game off. UEFA were never siding with us and we need to move on. It's time to man up and win the games that we are going to play....and get as high up the league as we can. Avanti, Antonio, Avanti!
The only positive and it really is the only one for me is that we don’t see many of the dog awful squad players feature much anymore and it should speed up the club looking to sell them in January now. But it also means any opportunities for the younger players has almost completely disappeared, so the likes of Rodon, Gil, Tanganga and Scarlett (plus any others who may have gotten a chance) are probably going to need loans. I don’t like UEFA’s decision, I don’t believe that a date couldn’t have been found at some point but I’m more pissed at this club for embarrassing itself. We should’ve never been in a position to rely on a final game to qualify into a two-legged play off phase. We were the favourites for the competition let alone our group and we exit it having lost to Vitesse and Mura, the latter who were the lowest ranked team in the group phase.
I know we all want a trophy, but this one is almost embarrassing to win. Like winning the Johnsons paint trophy. I'm glad we're out. The way things are going, I think we can qualify for Europa at least the proper way, so I see no advantage in being in. Arsenal have an advantage resting between games otherwise.
Judging by the reaction on social media, most fans couldn't give a toss about the competition. Fact is we have a real chance of pushing for a top 4 finish if we make a couple of additions in Jan. But our squad is miles away from being strong enough to compete on four fronts and truth be told has been for 3 years now. It'll take more than one window to get it back to a place where european competition is a realistic or even sensible pursuit. Our presence in it was an embarrassment from the off and I am glad to see the back of it.
I’m pleased with the decision. Don’t rate the competition and never have. Means less fixtures and can focus on domestic cups and more importantly the League. Top 6 has to be the aim and is achievable with Conte as manager.
Oh no, we've been booted out of a competition so prestigious that the referees assigned to the matches don't give a toss...
The part I like is where UEFA seriously went to Rennes and said, "Hey, can you reschedule the match? We'll give you a forfeit win if you can't."
Favourites but struggled against Mura and Vitesse. This squad wouldn’t have won the competition and it would have been to the detriment of the league campaign if they had got through to the last 16 and beyond
Yeah I know, but hoping by next season Conte will have sorted things out and got rid of the bottlers and then Spurs will be able to properly compete in Europa or even the group stage of CL
Standard UEFA decision: wrong and cowardly. The worst part is that they won't use it as a precedent. If one of their favourites have the same problem, then their opponents won't be given a 3-0 win. Suddenly makes the Mura embarrassment irrelevant, too. Even if we'd won, we'd still be out.
Makes you wonder if this decision has anything to do with Spurs and others pre-joining that "Super League!?" Taking it out on us to show what "giants" UEFA are!
I don’t want to be seen as sticking up for UEFA but didn’t Spurs cancel the game without permission and that’s why the game won’t be replayed?
If you haven't the players you can't play.....unlike City and, maybe Chelsea, who have bought 2/3 teams!?
