We were quiet after you scored, not for long but we were quiet.
Just as you lot were when we scored.

On TV they sounded quite loud in parts. They usually piggyback on our songs a bit and that's what it sounded like today. I guess it all depends where the microphones are for TV but they seemed to come in very loudly when we started singing "oh when the Spurs" to do their version. And of course there was the "we sing are own songs" nonsense as usual. I really wish we'd sing that one back at them, it would be a funny one to steal <laugh> There was some Bale stuff too, including one that I believe they stole off Arsenal <doh>

  3. Saints fans usually love that ding-dong song: "Same old [insert name of opposing player], always cheating!"

When you're called Saints, you do have a case for singing "When The Saints Go Marching In"

They starting singing a couple of Bale songs, one being

    "He's one of our own,
    He's one of our own,
    Gareth Bale,
    He's one of our own"

    To which we promptly replied

    "He left cos your ****
    He left cos your ****
    Gareth Bale
    He left cos your ****"

If you truly believe that was handball I suggest that you start watching a more simple sport as you clearly do not understand the laws of this one and if you want to talk integrity maybe your club should give Mane the minimum 1 match ban he should be recieving for the numerous genuine offences of simulation that he committed.

Seriously? Should we now accuse all things southampton of having no integrity after mane spent the match diving at every opportunity?
getting a lucky goal from a non deliberate hand ball does not equate to a lack of integrity.
You are disappointed you lost 2 points which I get...so you spout bollocks on here which I do not get.
kanus "goal" came from him chasing down an arsenal throw in back to a sheff utd goalkeeper after utd had kicked the ball out so an arsenal player could get treatment for an injury. So what has that got in common with lamela going to head a ball and it hitting his arm?
That post was so bitter you could be a gooner

Coming from a set of fans that were too busy sing "YID" to applaud off their stretchered player, that's rich!

On the game, I thought it was excellent and exciting, bar the first 15 minutes when it looked like both teams were eyeing each other up from the side of the dance floor. As a Saints fan I am going to be slightly bias and think we should have won it with slightly more chances, but I can't complain as it was a good game and we didn't lose.

The nicest part for me is that is firmly out us in your mini league and I hope we stay there. As a club, we had 7 shocking years but the last 5 have been progress upon progress. We have a great set-up and are moving forwards (you seem to be trying to be like us :) )The next bit will be hard though and that is maintaining too 6 challenge or breaking top 4. Let's be honest though lads, you guys haven't progressed for years and we have either caught you up or at the very least are now in your mini league.

I look forward to seeing which of our two clubs progresses from here.

Spot on, although to call it hard is a bit of an understatement. Everton, Villa, Newcastle and a couple of others have all achieved 7th or higher, looking like they had a really strong team only to fade away again, 2 of them dropping so far to be battling releagation since. Everton are a great illustration of how difficult it is, they finished 5th last season, spent all their money on maintaining what seemed at the time like a quality squad only for them to fall away totally. They didn't just fall behind sides like United that vastly outspent them, they fell behind ourselves, who spent very little, and sides that were nothing special last season.

You have to be good on all fronts, you have to improve the first team year on year, the manager has to improve each year and if you get into the Europa League you'll also have to add more depth to your squad. Sometimes that's still only enough to keep you where you are too. It's not impossible to break the top 4 without truck loads of cash but it does need the club to be exceptional over a sustained period.

We have not progressed for years? Maybe that is because we are performing to the maximum of our financial position in this league. Southampton are certainly performing above their natural position (financially speaking) but then we and Everton have done this in recent times. It will be very difficult for you to maintain your present position next season enjoy your blip.

Not the first time I've seen that: a few years back they were playing Portsmouth in the FA Cup shortly after Harry Redknapp had switched one part of Hampshire for another, and rather than cheer the team the Southampton fans spent the whole game trolling the Portmouth fans.

I asked you to read one post. One.

Someone's about to find out about the joys of the Europa League, I think.
Getting to it is one thing. Maintaining a respectable league position while you're in it is something else entirely.
Newcastle qualified for it as recently as the 11/12 season, finishing above Chelsea to do so.
The following season they finished 16th and narrowly avoided relegation.

There's quite a list of sides that have got into Europe for a season or two, only to falter horribly in subsequent years.
The last decade has seen the likes of Bolton, Boro, Blackburn, West Ham, Newcastle, Portsmouth, Fulham, Birmingham and Wigan all make it.
They all went on to get relegated in the following years.
I can't see that happening to Southampton, as they have a sustainable approach to the game, but it's a struggle to maintain that position.

Well said PNP. Southampton will have one hell of a shock next season. It may look as though we've stood still but we've maintained our league position despite the europa can't think of any other clubs that have done that. Southampton will do exactly what Everton have done this year and the likes of swansea/newcastle/stoke previously

FFS. Okay I just spent ages scrolling through to... Page 4 apparently. So why was I supposed to do that again? To see that your precise wording was that the criticisms against Lamela can be applied to other players like Chadli and Townsend? So, er, since those two, and the rest of the squad also, are so good criticism of Lamela is somehow flawed. Or something. Definitely not damning with faint praise. Definitely.

Point was that criticizing him is wrong even when it gets to the point where fans are praising his performances in games where, as usual, he basically does **** all. Again.

I'm sorry but the Lamela apologists really shouldn't knock people for bringing up his transfer fee because I am positive that by far the biggest reason that people say he's "promising" is in fact that fee. It's the only reason I have a minuscule sliver of hope for him. But that hope rests on the very shakey assumption that the club can't have really paid way, way over the top for a Championship player.

You obviously can't have a decent discussion mate. I wasn't digging, it's a fact. It may well be due to finances, but it is a fact, which is why I said it gets hard for us now.

    never mind.

Thankfully yid vicious seems capable of a decent discussion, so I don't need to think you are representative of Spurs fans.

Did you quote the wrong comment or something?
Spurf didn't say anything that implied you were digging or even anything vaguely controversial.

As if you'd be any different if you only played Arsenal once every few years.

All the chants that day were variants on "Harry Redknapp's red and white army" - just to spite the Pompey fans.

I've got a simple question for you: Mason ran around like a headless chicken in midfield before falling flat on his backside, which led to Southampton's goal. All in all, that's something that deserves a slating, because Mason's frequently been caught out of position this season and it's cost us plenty of times. So was it overlooked because there's a load of Mason apologists that I'm not aware of, or is it just certain posters have a bee in their bonnet about Lamela and they're looking for any excuse to have a pop, whether or not it's justified? Seriously, it just looks like you've been waiting for Lamela to get another game so you can slag him off again, and that's tiresome.

Mason slipped on a pitch that left several players on their arse and injured 2 players. He apparently apoligised to the rest of the players but I don't blame him for it. It wasn't one of his best performances but he was still more defensively aware than several other players yesterday.
