I'm not that surprised. Pochettino has a history of picking the last man on the bench to play, with certainly Mason and arguably Paulinho, Kaboul and Capoue as examples. Ade was due a start, and due a start today, if I read my Pochettino rotation policy tea leaves right. I give him credit for sticking to his guns. It will help his standing in the dressing room. Luckily, I'm the carefree type who isn't inclined to worry.
Ade is probably only captain because protocol demands it, he was appointed joint vice-captain after all wasn't he?
For those who haven't seen the team yet its Vorm, Walker, Dier, Vertonghen, Davies, Townsend, Mason, Stambouli, Eriksen, Kane, Adebayor (c). Subs are Friedel, Kaboul, Rose, Dembele, Lennon, Paulinho, Soldado. I'd have liked to have seen Onomah and maybe a couple of other youngsters on the bench but I guess Pochettino will wait until the second leg, if its appropriate, to give such players time on the pitch.
I worry less about Ade starting than us having only one real wide player against a team likely to park the bus. I would have started Rose at LM again, though maybe Dembele there would be a good choice as well.
It would've been nice but I'd rather we put a strong side out tonight and depending on the result we either rest important players against Leicester or in the second leg, if we can afford to. Good to see Mason back. Not sure about Adebayor as captain but he's still our vice captain for the time being I've wanted Ade out for awhile but I really hope we don't boo him again tonight, it doesn't do anyone any good. I think he'll inevitably get a few jeers though.
Eriksen and Walker down the right should cause some damage and Townsend down the left. I hope that's the way we'll go.
Right, since no one made a match thread this is it now. I expect Totsfan will be editing the thread to include players that played for both and the history of Spurs v Sheffield United
Looks like another wonky lineup, to me. Too narrow. Could still get the job done, of course, but I always prefer to see Eriksen playing more centrally, as he does anyway. Our fullbacks are going to be very open to breaks. Adebayor as captain's a strange one, too. Not sure that's the right message to be sending out.
Sutton United ,yes but there isn't any,not Sheffield.Apparently Ade's last 8 goals have been scored at the lane, according to 5 live, maybe that is why M.P.is starting him
VERY clever by Pochettino. If Adebayor cannot front up tonight, as forward and as captain, then supporter sentiment will finally do for him. If he does what he is actually paid for, then he buys a stay of execution.
6 minutes in and we've already messed around with the ball on the edge of our own penalty area 3 times
