I agree. It's the sheer number of players who consistently give 1 out of 10 performances when called upon. And I have to question the mentality and Poch's ability to inspire a performance. As much as we mock Pep, his team looks 100% committed irrespective of the opposition. There is a world of difference between confidence and arrogance and until our players (1st team included. We've seen far too many languid, tepid first halfs this season in all competitions) comprehend that, we'll win **** all. It's all well and good blaming it on the magic of the cup but this has been an ongoing problem all season across all competitions and smacks of a deeper problem. My personal opinion remains as it has done for the past 3 seasons - we lack a proper captain and leader on the pitch. Someone like Roy Keane giving Winks, Wanyama, Toby, Son, Llorente, Sissoko and Rose an absolute bollocking 10 minutes in wouldn't have gone amiss.
On a more optimistic note. Every time we've won the cup in my lifetime we had to go through countless replays and extra times, including the finals in 1981, 1982 and 1991 (1987 too but the less said about that the better).
I know youre upset mate but how can you say you would rather us be out ? We last won this trophy in 91 and this is our best hope of silverware.
Thought Son was the worst player on the pitch, after Llorente. At least the other players you mentioned being off the pace were recovering from injury or not playing regularly. You're right about Rose though, looked good going forward but didn't take defending seriously and that's unforgivable. Trippier might be **** but at least he tried and got himself about for the team. Honestly, only Moura and the subs come away with any credit. I'd like a trophy as well but I think top 4 is more valuable, particularly for next season, and if that's the level our backup players are at then we'd be better off for the rest.
If we can win this replay and take the next round to a winning replay [not unlikely], we'd be on for winning every round of the cup at Wembley. A weird record if it happened and unlikely to ever be done again.
Think you’re being harsh on Son and Tripps. Sons form has been great this season and he’s cooled a bit lately which can be forgiven. Tripps put in some great crosses only to find no runners. He always puts in a shift. Llorente offers nothing. I can’t think of one assets he has that improves us when he plays.
I'd rather we sort our squad depth out in the summer and give the CL next season. If we keep on picking up extra games then sooner or later we're going to have to rely on the squad depth, which was on show tonight and bloody awful. Keep the first 11 fit and have a good crack at the CL and top 4, most of the rest haven't got a clue.
Yes in general but not today. It was a clear penalty. The fact that he exaggerated the effect should be irrelevant unless it led to a card, which it didn't. Now kindly jog on
When he dives he is slated...read other match threads like the Liverpool thread. As he did not dive tonight there is nothing to criticise him for. However Rose dod dive today and has been criticised. Wishing our players get injured is going to get a reaction pn our board so I am guessing that was why it was removed. Banter is fine but you crossed a line on here so chill and discuss sensibly or rant on the premier board.
To be honest, this line of argument about the CL is used every year. we should not be giving up on the cups imho. We should have won today so the argument falls for me.
Can say they played well Moura, Trippier and Sissoko all put in the effort and were looking to make things happen Foyth was reasonably solid at the back (barring some hairy moments early in the second half) and his chipped passes caused some problems Can say they did okay Winks may have been at fault for the opener, but he was looking to get us back into the match in the second half Vorm didn't do much wrong, barring a couple of poor clearances, although that's as complimentary as it gets Can claim they did okay Son tried to get things going with Llorente in the first half, but disappeared in the second Rose grew into the game late on, but was poor for at least 2/3 of the game Alderweireld recovered from slipping on the pitch a couple of times, but honestly Foyth looked more composed Wanyama did get a few moves going, but completely failed to lock down midfield Would be better pretending they didn't play Llorente, although that sums up his performance anyway...
I would prefer ability to TERRIFY a performance. If this was Fergie era Man Utd, what do you think the performances come the 2nd half would have been in all these games ?? You want to know the cumulative effects of playing without fear or consequence : look down the road at our neighbours.
The way I see it. Win the PL, you're the best team in the country. Win the CL, you're the best team in Europe. Win the FA Cup, you've won the FA Cup. It's nice to win a trophy but I'd rather we put ourselves up against the best in Europe again next season.
The good........ Lucas The bad? How long have you got? Love Sonny, but he chose today to have a particularly ineffective game. But that still put him behind Llorente, Rose, Winks and Sissoko in the line of shame. Rose may have woken up in the last 15 minutes, but his **** performance til then, the two pathetic dives (no wonder he got kicked in the air towards the end lol) and his role in their equaliser make his overall performance a liability.
Genuine answer to a genuine question While he made the most of McGahey's challenge, McGahey's challenge was a foul in the penalty area - which are the sort of thing that lead to penalties (unless you're the away team at Old Trafford, obviously) Deserved answer to a stupid question It's a shame that posters such as you never seem to suffer from bias remorse, although I hear there's a place for you on Sky Sports' sofa.
