As far as I see it the only negative from last night was Toby getting injured but even then a positive came out of it Eric was immense as he slotted into the back line.all the players were top draw and it was a pleasure watching my beloved spurs long may that continue. COYS
No need to get personal CK. I'd be on cloud 9 if Madrid had thrashed that newly promoted team last weekend instead of losing to it. Madrid have top players out so I'm just being realistic CK. With top players in, take away the offside which SHOULD NOT have stood, take away the deflection and we are nearer the mark. Two defeats and a draw.
You highlight the offside goal, the deflection etc but what about the sitter that Dele missed?, the definite pen we should have had. We outplayed Real Madrid in all areas and deserved to win 3-1. In fact Real were lucky they didnt get more of a hammering. You go on about Real's injuries but this is a Spurs side that lost Alderweireld after 20 mins, Wanyama out, Dembele and Rose were on the bench but are struggling for match fitness. You are in the minority here mate.
Amongst all the wonders of last night there was a moment, a special moment that made my heart soar.............as Madrid attacked in the second half, our back 5 in a perfectly straight line, beautiful spacing between each player. Impenetrable. That's testament to countless hours of drilling. Add in that Eric Dier's hardly played at the back recently and Davinson Sanchez is still settling and played little more than 10 games and that's ridiculously good. My love for Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching team is reaching worrying levels.
If we top this group it's a bigger achievement than winning either of the domestic cups. We won't get a trophy and neither should we but it underlines for me how we shouldn't put trophies on a pedestal for the sake of it. We can achieve a lot this season with or without a trophy.
I don't know if it has been reported elsewhere but Rafa Van der Vaart wasn't the only returning hero last night.............Spot someone familiar at 24.25 ? He kept it low key.........He's a Yido.
We have a thing about beating the reigning champs of the competition, don't we guys and gals? Honesty what a night. Everyone has practically said all the superlatives already so I don't feel I need to add too much other than just wow, we may not win many trophies and I really do hope that changes but games like this are moments you'll never forget and are the next best thing. Oh, anyone else care to join me on the Tripps bandwagon now? Haha. But seriously, as I said pre-match, I've no problem with who starts at RB for us as both he and Aurier are excellent players. Thought Winks and Dier were awesome, while Dele looked like the Dele we've all come to adore over the past two seasons. Thank you Mauricio Pochettino for bringing us yet another superb performance and moment, you truly are a special, special manager. COYS!!!
Personal? Don't be so precious. He's only suggesting you have a short memory. You are entitled to your view, of course, but others can be surprised and say so.
And if we’re into nit-picking, didn’t Modric handle the ball in the lead to their goal. If my auntie had bollocks, she would be my uncle!
I wonder if other clubs inspire the same loyalty. Rafa and JD will probably know none of the players (as colleagues) and so it is just about the club. Benny and Wimmer are also around a lot. Wonder when Fabregas last watched Arsenal play as a punter. JD
You must be bantering... Surely? We just beat the best team on the planet in convincing fashion and you're trying to play it down? I'd understand if you were Ginge/ CFC/ Piskie or others from the Prem board that we have banter with but I'd never expect a fellow Spurs fan to be so downbeat on our achievement.
Heard a new song as I was leaving the ground last night: "Beating Madrid, Beating Madrid! The thing I like best is beating Madrid!" (Didn't catch the rest of the lyrics - something about Spain is in there, of course!) But that's inspired!!!
I was 50/50 on the Aurier/Trippier debate for last night.........just look at this. What a performance. It's a long way from this chubby lad's time at Burnley. £3.5m - a complete steal. please log in to view this image
LosLadrones goal would almost certainly have been saved by Lloris if it wasn’t deflected by Dier. Our second goal would almost certainly gone into the top corner as the goalkeeper was very late in moving. Frankly I just don’t care as we are well in deficit on dodgy decisions
To think City let him go for pennies and then signed his backup a few years later for £50m. Banter. In all seriousness Tripps has really grown on me over the past twelve months. When he joined it was evident he was Walker's back up but as time went by he slowly started showing signs that he was nobody's bitch and then eventually got to a point where Poch saw he could rotate easily without feeling weakened. Both he and Davies deserve immense praise. They've waited in the wings, never complained and now I think it's fair to say Davies is currently our first choice LB while Tripps is basically a 50-50 bet with a multiple Ligue 1 winner who's regarded as one of the best in Europe.
