I agree as soon as he came on he looked purposeful and committed which is quite a change from his recent performances. You can always excuse the odd mistake if the overall performance is effective. Son looked way below par but as Mourinho said he thought the players were tired from the internationals.
Jose did actually say he probably should have made one or two changes in his post match interview due to the week the players have had. He made a ballsy move with the early sub though and it paid off nicely. Good management. He’s done a lot right so far, both with on-field and off-field stuff. If he keeps it up I think the fans will warm to him.
He is going out of his way to create a warm atmosphere with fans and players. There is no doubt his experience at United made him rethink much of his recent work. Hopefully Spurs will get the benefit.
Isn't that sort of sub a no brainer? The initial team and tactics are selected in the expectation that you've got 90 mins to get the necessary draw and hopefully a win. After the second goal you need to win 2-0 or more in 60 mins which requires an entirely different approsch with much more risk.
Palace never made a sub when we were 4-0 up in the first half... Managers tend to have too much pride to make a sub in the first half when things are going badly.
In a league match there is an argument that you don't want to take too much risk in case your goal difference matters at the end of the season. In yesterday's match as in the Bayern Munich one, the only thing that mattered was the result on the night. Both our managers went very attacking, the main difference was that Bayern were good enough to take advantage and Olympiacos were bad enough to succumb.
Here comes the pass map please log in to view this image A pretty damning indictment on Eriksen, to be honest: not for his performance last night, as he was always available for passes and moving the ball on, but for the months where he was almost literally hiding behind opposition players so he wasn't in position to receive the ball in the first place
1. WTF does Danny Rose or his sgent have on journalists. His first half performance was appalling yet Winks gets all the **** while Rose doesn't even get a mention... https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...n-tottenham-start-jose-mourinho-welcome-party 2. Rose and Toby are proving the club to be very, very right in not giving them a new contract. They were awful. Again, winks is criticised for losing the player who flicked the corner on for the 2nd gosl but not a mention of Toby losing his player in the 6 yard box (he wasn't blocked off or obstructed). https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...spur-olympiakos-champions-league-match-report This report gives a little mild criticism of Rose! 3. Dele is back to be an annoying in your face pain in the arse excellent player. 4. Son and Moura were brave (football wise) with and without the ball... always showing for the ball and always trying to go past the first man. 5. Was in the north lower... was quite a bit of singing. 6. Was next to the away fans (they were great before the game, decent when they were winning but rubbish after that) ... there were a chunk of 20 or 30 mixed in with the spurs fans (you could see exactly who they were before the game cos they joined in the chanting) but instead of moving them into the section with the away fans or taking them out the stewards waited until it was a problem after they scored. Hopefully the fpurs fans who bought and sold on tickets will be banned...it is the second CL game in a row that this has happened. Special mention to the ****wit behind me who thought that screaming "you Greek ****s" (at an Olympiakos fan who was leaving the area) is ok...****er was actually surprised when I told him to shut the **** up and tried to justify himself and was offended when I told him to wind his neck and chill the **** out . Thankfully the prick pissed off before ht and left the rest of us to enjoy the match without his bile. 7. Excellent from the ballboy. 8. Loved the fact the Maureen was so calming on the touchline. 9. Interesting to see his wuick substitution of Dier and him taking the time to explain it. 10. It was weird not having Pochettino on the touchline.
He's a spin doctor. He spent a fortune on very ordinary players at Utd - ones who were never going to set the world alight despite their price tags. His judgement as a manager is open to question after his departure from Utd. A bit of humility in his first week seems to have won over a few sceptical Spurs fans - remarkably so - but there's a long way to go before any assessment can be made.
I had a couple of pints in The North Lower before the game. Lots of Olympiakos scarves and shirts in evidence. Are our stewards in need of seeing eye dogs? Letting them in just increases the chances of trouble During the first half, The North Upper was full of Greek fans and mutes. It was devoid of atmosphere and stewards. Somewhat better in the second half but it still wasn't great.
Neither can I. He'd been out of work a number of weeks after things went pear shaped during his second spell at Chelsea. He was refreshed etc then too.....
He’s been out for almost a year this time and that Chelsea disaster was still a big part of him if he took the United seat only a few weeks later We will see though...I’m intrigued...however so far I am impressed.
I enjoyed that. The assistant manager was full of it too! I guess the cameraman didn't see the match!!!!
Yes, RCL - we do try! But nearly all the songs are pitched too high for me (and I sing in a choir!!) so I even drone along an octave lower, or just sit/stand and enjoy the sound of the singers around me. ps If I'd known you were visiting our domain, I'd have bought you a pint!
Thanks for posting that, it was fascinating. He really doesn't want to stay in his technical area Is it wrong that I hated his appointment, hated the man before he joined (to the extent that there was an involuntary scowl when his name was mentioned) and now find myself warming to him. Is my perspective so skewed in favour of the team I love that I would find myself liking Vlad the impaler if he was appointed Spurs DOF?
Vertonghen was living every minute of that game. I hope he's fit enough to start again soon. Mourinho: Stay calm. Be composed. Relax. Sacramento: Interesting to see Alli approach Mourinho after the Kane equaliser and point something out, which seemed to prompt the Sissoko/Moura sub.
