A fluke deflected log shot and a goal due to poor defending from a set play and the game is over. They are not a great deal better than us, we have played a lot worse than this, but they are comfortable and even though our wide players have done ok we just don't look like scoring, get 1 and you never know. I would replace Sarr and Richarlison for the 2nd half.
Offensively it’s fine margins and Spurs should have a goal but defensively the team is amateur and set up all wrong. Spurs have consistently been far too easy to create chances against and at this level you will get punished like we’ve seen for most of Ange’s tenure.
To be honest it’s very believable nowadays when you have a manager that is only slightly more qualified than I am.
Ange has obviously done this to spite my script (1. my apologies 2. how can I Paqueta this game now ?? ) .
There were definitely some, especially in those games we drew 1-1 (usually with West Brom) despite dominating possession, just couldn't find a way through etc. But they were few and far between - the exception rather than what we now have which is the norm: Normal in every single match to rely on the fine margins going our way.
I don’t see us picking up another point this season. One of those games is against Villa, so don’t expect any favours in that one, either!
Yeah I completely agree with your last point. I would always use the example of City at their peak - they controlled the game so well and were so good at their game that if the odd dodgy call goes against them, or a bad deflection, then it doesn’t matter. They’ve done enough to ensure the bad luck doesn’t affect them to the same degree, and control the game to make sure that there are less opportunities for a damaging bad call or deflection to take place. But we’re that kind of team at the moment - unless we really turn it on then we don’t have that level of quality or control, so we need things to go our way. This game could quite conceivably be 1-1 and we’d all be feeling quite different though. I raised the point because I don’t think we’re exactly being outplayed in a big way. The problems are apparent though - Sarr holding onto the ball in midfield for too long for example, or Porro and Odobert needing more support from Kulusevski when they have the ball on the right and need a different angle from a left footer to help break down the Forest defence. Even if it was 1-1 all the same problems would be there even though a couple of tiny things at specific moments were changed. Wouldn’t makes a better team necessarily.
The thing that makes me hate Postecoglou as a manager is that I think almost every Spurs fan knew we were not gonna turn up today and so the one shining light could’ve been starts for Moore, Gray (at DM), Scarlett and one or two others. But no, we get a team that have **** all to play for and who are all clearly only focused on Europa.
Are the Forest centre backs a bit like Leicester's in 'that' season in that the refs give them quite a bit of leeway?
The remit should be to get as much game time into the legs of Kulu/VDV/etc, with a view that Spurs will have to play a 120 min 2nd leg against Bodo. Every other strongest starting XI player, should be played with the aim of "stretching their legs" only.
