I’d argue that the outcome isn’t more uncertain though. Feels quite predictable watching Spurs since November last year under Ange. I’m not interested in seeing Spurs finish 4th-8th anymore. I wanna see good football but most importantly trophy winning football, it’s been far too long since 2008 (1991 if you wanna be picky). I’m not gonna be one of those fans that is buzzing after an exciting narrow defeat because the team gave their all.
Unironically this. I did put a poll up last time people complained about Munse, but he survived: https://not606.com/threads/roy-munson.406210/ Gut him and feed him to the pigs was a very popular option that I forgot to include, though.
I think Udogie's still not 100% too, having just returned from injury and missing most of the pre-season.
It’s only one person complaining about Munse though. That same person is the only one who’s been attacking people personally and seems to only want to see posts that echo his view and anyone else who says otherwise is a moron or childish.
I know you asked him but I’d say City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd & Chelsea. Possibly Brighton too tbh
We all want to see trophy winning football but given the five richer* teams the only way to win is to take more risk. I think we are now doing that by riskier recruitment and riskier tactics. In some ways I agree with you that some of the outcomes are predictable...we are bound to concede more goals but we should score more too. In the first three games we've scored 6 goals and conceded 3. If we do that all season we will be a lot better off than last season, but there is already moaning. *I know we've caught Arsenal and Chelsea on income recently but it will be quite a while until we catch them on squad value.
More risk is fine. But the high line and wing backs playing as 10s leaving the team so exposed at the back on a frequent basis is reckless and won’t ever be successful imo.
Those first five are the squads which cost the most and are being paid the most so are likely to be the best. Brighton are behind us on the same measures
Squads are difficult to say as tbh I usually don't know nearly enough about other teams' entire squad to make that sort of judgement. What I usually do is look at other teams' first teams and regular bench players, and ask: Which of these would I like to take the spot of our equivalent in our matchday squad? If the answer to that question ends up with a majority of players from the other team (10 or more), they have a better squad than us. City: Ederson, Dias, Rodri, KDB, Bernardo, Gvardiol, Foden, Haaland | Ake, Stones, Kovakic, Grealish, Gundogan = 13 Arsenal: Saliba, Rice, Odegaard, Saka | Neto, Calafiori, Tomiyasu, Havertz, Jesus, Trossard, Sterling = 11 Liverpool: Alisson, VVD, Robertson, TAA, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Jota, Salah | Kelleher, Gakpo, Endo, Nunez = 12 United: Ugarte, Fernandes, Garnacho | Bayindir, Shaw, Mainoo = 6 Chelsea: Sanchez, Lavia, Caceido, Palmer, Madueke | Disasi, Adarbioyo, Neto, Gusto = 9 Brighton: Minteh, Mitoma, Joao Pedro | Estupinan, Adingra, Lamptey = 6 Villa: McGinn, Tielemans, Onana, Watkins, Bailey | Maatsen, Kamara, Ramsey = 8 I only see three. By this measure, we are significantly better than United and Brighton, marginally better than Chelsea and Villa, and appx. 2-3 quality signings away from City, Liverpool and Arsenal, which sounds about right.
You could easily be right but I think Ange is a better coach than ten Haag so makes our players look relatively better. And who knows which Chelsea players are any good because they don't have any teamwork at all.
I'd say we've got a better squad than Utd and a better one than Brighton too, albeit Brighton's first XI is looking very impressive and playing once a week gives them an advantage in the Prem this season, their new manager is no doubt going to be some uncovered gem too. I also think right now we're better than Chelsea but they're bound to find a solution sooner or later with the 74 players they've signed these last couple years. City, Arsenal and Pool are substantially better though, I also think they're considerably better coached* which can make the quality gap look that bit bigger. *Too early to tell of Slot but basing it off of Klopp's legacy and the team he built.
I'm begining to think if Real Madrid's team were playing for Tottenham they'd screw up! Weve got the name, the ground, the fans.....something seems to be missing!!!
Ange was quite positive about Dragusin’s performance and said he will play a big part this season. Wouldn’t be massively surprised if he starts alongside Micky (if fit) in the NLD
What bothers me most about the whole back line is their arrogance. They are a law unto themselves, apparently allowed to do whatever they feel like doing with little regard for the consequences of their actions. They mark when they feel like it, track back when they fancy, stay in position if it appeals to them. Four highly arrogant players. Micky has the pace to compensate for that arrogance. The other three don't. I hope Radu spends more time listening to Davies than our other so-called defenders.
I thought Slot talked well after the game yesterday, I know it's easy after a 3-0 win at your biggest rivals, but watching him talking about tactics was more insightful than I have ever seen Ange be and I got a feeling of (using Jim Bowens words) lets see what you could have won.
I find it hard to blame the actual defenders to be honest, I do really think it’s the tactics. When we used to concede during the end of Poch/ Jose/ Conte eras, it was so often idiotic mistakes from the likes of Sanchez, Dier, Aurier, Doherty etc as they were defenders that struggled to defend. This time we’re conceding because our defenders aren’t acting as defenders half the time. The players themselves have spoken about how Ange encourages them to take the forward risks. Realistically defenders shouldn’t be taking risks, not in my opinion anyway. I also feel like myself, King and one or two others who were in the minority at the time have been somewhat vindicated for when we lambasted Ange over the Chelsea debacle where he maintained that high line with 9 men. Some on here called it brave and a learning experience from which we’d grow but just under a year later and the same mistakes keep happening where we leave Vicario exposed as our defence are chasing shadows so high up the pitch. I love Ange’s mentality for wanting to attack at all costs but this just isn’t sustainable if he himself or the club/ fans in general want to progress. He has to tweak these defensive tactics otherwise we’ll forever be exposed. It may have worked in lesser leagues but the quality in the Prem punishes such naivety.
Yeah I was really impressed with how he spoke. He dissected Man Utd’s whole system and play within about 2 minutes, I even found myself feeling sorry for ten Hag at how easily his game plan was exposed to watching viewers . Slot’s gotten off to the perfect start though so did Ange but I’m definitely intrigued to see how he does. Liverpool might have hit a second successive jackpot with him after having some great years with ol’ teeth gnasher.
I like them all individually and think all of them could get into most top sides. Yeah they have flaws and will make mistakes but I genuinely believe it’s down to the lack of defensive coaching and tactics that makes them look a bit keystone cops at times.
